When you say that the shape you play is determined by the string you where you found the root note why do you play a d shape on the b string?

It would be worth pointing out (especially on the D string), that D is up 2 from C, so you go to the 12-2 = 10 fret. That always works since 12 half steps is an octave.

I understand how you find the root note on the five strings but how do you know what cord to make once you get there how did you just come up with these chords that's what confuses me😮

I don´t understand why there´s a C in this scale. In the D major scale you don´t find it, it´s a C# instead, or am I wrong?

I dont understand how you find the chord shape from the string? When doing a G chord you found the root note on the B string but then used a D shape?

Love it. When I was little my parents wouldn't let me practice my piano so I would go into my bedroom and play my guitar. I was self taught (other than piano, reading etc.) except for one guitar lesson. I fired the teacher because he kicked my dog out of his way. I was 8 or 9. I figured out all of these chord combinations by myself and I share them with my students now. They are the best especially for people with little hands.

I'm confused on how to find the cord after you find the root note thanks. Do you use the original notes in the cord

As others have pointed out, this is CAGED… kudos for pointing out major and minor arpeggios within the CAGED shapes…would be great if you went one step further to explain the difference is the flat 3rd , which is super helpful and important to know. However you’ve made a discussion on shapes confusing because you’re calling the same shape by 2 names… your E-string shape and D-string shape are the SAME, (CAGED E-shape), and then your A-string and G-string shapes are the SAME, (CAGED A-shape), finally your B-string shape is CAGED D-shape.

Really helpful - I think the penny has finally dropped thanks to this video! One thing threw me slightly at first though - I would have found it easier to follow if the fretboard diagram was facing the same way as the guitar - but that's probably just me😉 Thanks again 👍

It's not CAGED, it's just shapes derived from CAGED ?
@MusicMatchr2 ай бұрын
Hi Kevin, CAGED used the shapes C A G E and D. This system doesn't use the C and G shapes because they are (mostly) impractical. This system is easier to use and wrap your head around!

The secret seems to be playing the first four strings like a baritone ukulele with movable chords and not playing the fifth and six strings. Great video and an eye opener.
