I'd love to drive one of these (in semi truck training now)! Which licensing do you need to drive and are haul truck drivers very in demand? It's like driving a house! 😂

As as a breakdown fitter electrician, Love the Elink , VIMS screen and temps , Data etc.. , especially brake temp issues , due to wiring and ‘ green death ‘ sulphated connectors , here in Australia, the salt content is high , especially in Western Australia, there’s so much with ‘temp sensors , diff pressure and temp , because of water ingress , the water connectors can due so much , and having the VIMs a great Diagnosic tool when you don’t have the ET , SIS near by , test driving the CAT is cool , super cool as I’m VOC ‘ed on it and love the power when they get going , sooo Uber lucky to blessed working on these CAT products and in the Mining game !

My question is, when do you mostly use the retarder brake? Always to slow down? Or the brake next to the accelerator? Please help , lol.
@R2RO20 Жыл бұрын
I've seen people use the retarder all the time, but the service brake (brake next to accelerator) is never to be used at high speeds but best used when entering the area you're being loaded. That way you have your right hand ready at the shifter...

I operate one from mon-fri 6am-4pm then sat 6am-12. Where I work we have 3 770g trucks. Which we get loaded by a 992 loader. 2-2.5 scoops and we're fully loaded. There only 40 tonners. We can fit 50 though. Lol. Soon we are getting rid of them and getting 100 ton trucks bc our quarry is getting a brand new plant for crushing stone etc.. it'll be another couple years before it's finished though. But yeah I love driving them. Literally my first day of work. I watched a few safety videos, then got put right into a truck. Only 3 days of driving with somebody then after that I was on my own.

So if it took 7 minutes 30 seconds for one run that means you’re doing 96 runs a day if you’re doing 12 hours which is 720 minutes

All these jobs will soon be gone. Mine trucks are all going satellite controlled. No need for humans
@MajorDrama1 Жыл бұрын
They said that 20 years ago.. Ditto the trains.. :-) But I wonder how the satellite might perform the all all the prestart safety inspections and offer the continuous multi-sensory safety input offered by a human operator? And if they make changes that make the environment less safe (than human) then liability/culpability issues arise...

@tombax16534 жыл бұрын
Very large equipment is built on-site. Some of the larger Caterpillar products are delivered like that - brought in pieces then assembled on-site.

Everybody goes into a big song-and-dance over driving dumpies and it's mostly all BS. The truth of the matter is you could get a well trained chimpanzee to drive one, which is probably why there are so many women in dumpies these days! Put 'em in an old R model Flintstone with a twin stick quad box and then we'll find out who the real truck drivers are!
