I don't think people grasped the power dynamics and the true meaning of this scene. Johnny didn't win, there's no winning in his final crusade to fight against Roark. Roark screwed his mother, killed his newly met blonde, broke his hand, he destroyed and humiliated everything Johnny loved or cared about, yet he fought back with defiance. Instead of accepting defeat, Johnny went through extreme humiliation to play the game with only one hand, yet his victory backfired at him. Notice when Johnny made his monologue he gave a flicker of grin, but quickly disappeared as Roark stood up and pulled out a gun. Roark shot him and tossed him out like he was just a minor inconvenience. Johnny's defiance and victory is completely shattered useless as Roark is playing a far more vicious game, a game with power. It doesn't matter how skilled you are or how smart you are, the man with power will always triumph in the sin city. Just like in real life

See, the problem why this failed and the OG Sin City worked was the protagonists in the original were kind of insane assholes. But the villains were even worse somehow. Really laid down that no hope feeling. This guy is like an anime protagonist
