Steve Spurrier dubbed the football stadium on the UF campus a few miles to the north "The Swamp", but Paynes Prairie is the REAL swamp. Also, any eastern diamondback rattlesnakes in Paynes Prairie? I've been on the edge on I-75 just south of Gainesville.

What you saw was an alligator water dance. Performed by a male alligator presumably as a mating display. You were quite lucky to witness this.
