I feel this 100%!!! I’ve been that negative parent with the yelling and questioning why they have their head up their ass!!! I’m telling you now, once you stop doing that and start with the positive on a bad run it’s a whole other ballgame. Conversation and relationships become better!! Thank you for this video!!!

Yes Tom, hip straight down , pointed at the steers head, but stop with the dropping the knee stuff ( kids will get hurt needlessly ) , wide or tight , you want your knee up as high as possible , the only way to keep your body square and make a controlled catch. I do know what I`m on about mate !!
@csgrinner8334
@csgrinner8334 6 жыл бұрын
Really hard to comment on a photo by itself, but most important is to hit the ground with left leg slightly back, left elbow as forward as you can in the catch ( and pushing downwards into your pocket ) and body as square as possible. Hold that and most every steer will come around and raise his nose, ..... that is when you take him.
@csgrinner8334
@csgrinner8334 6 жыл бұрын
I disagree entirely with dropping your knee as instructed. Your right knee should stay as vertical as possible, this does allow you to get forward slightly to catch body, and then the inside horn and set up the catch, even if your horse turns or slacks off. your balance in the catch is higher and will only help for control in the turn back and throw.

when you have your hand closed your elbow isn't out that helps you mash down harder and helps with your elbow being out. If your hand is open when you hit the ground is going to slip off. When your hand is closed and you hit the ground immediately can push down on that horn.

Hi Justin. Thank you for your comment concerning the hand and elbow position. The key element of our style is that the steer wrestler is over and through the horns and the steer's head is positioned as deeply in the "V" as possible. This places the wrestler in the most advantageous position to make a strong finish resulting in fast "one point" hits rather the slower "two point" falls. Watch how cleanly stars such as Tyler Waguespack and Rowdy Parrot make their steers hit. We find that the forward positioning of the elbow enables the wrestler to get over the horns while allowing him to actually push them deeply into the "V". Also, this position keeps the wrestler and steer square until time for the finish. As to closing the hand over the horns...Tyler has said that he will allow his index finger and thumb to wrap around the horn to prevent slippage, BUT NOT FOR THE PURPOSE OF PULLING. His goal is to position the head as deeply as he can. Stay tuned, we will be placing a video discussing this in more detail. Also, feel free to follow us on Facebook. Thanks.

Tom Carney and Ote Berry discuss how to maximize your strength and effectiveness by using the proper hand, arm, and shoulder positions. This is a critical consideration in setting up for the most powerful finish.

One correction: Tom mentioned positioning the horse on the right shoulder of the steer...it should be the left.
