Used this 1.5 years ago for a music video shoot, then revisited it last week for a shoot this past weekend. Beautiful info, perfect amount of self deprecation, and even more beautiful flares. I'd imagine you're busy as all hell, hence the lack of uploads, but I know myself and many others would love to head back into your nerd cave for whatever you decide to cook up. What you make is such a perfect combination of ridiculous, yet useful and inspired filmmaking.

Hey Brother! First of all thank you for this video! Very creative! One question remained... how are you actually jamming the timecode to the camera? It wasn't explained in the video... I am assuming that you have a stereo female connection, the audio going to your speaker/in-ear rig and the other one with an audio to bnc cable? We do a lot of multi-cam and this would be a game-changer! Let me know your thoughts!
@TheUndercurrentTV
@TheUndercurrentTV 7 ай бұрын
Hey mate! So this technique is a strictly visual timecode - no actual timecode signal goes to the cameras. It still works with multicam - we've done a lot of clips that way. You just need to make sure that every camera sees the tablet screen at the beginning - and then you use that footage to manually line up each camera in post. Sometimes that means putting some extra timecode on your playback file before the music starts, so the playback operator has enough time to get around to each camera and show them the slate. I've been wanting to work out a way to get physical timecode to each camera, but so far when shooting offspeed I haven't found a reliable method.

@@TheUndercurrentTV hey! Thanks for clarifying! But manual timecode=nightmare. I'm sure there's an easy way to jam it to a wireless master timecode unit. I'll do some testing and get back at you when I figure out a solution!

So I tested this out this weekend. Bit confused how to sync it after. Usually use multi cam and sync that way. Would I add a gap 10 seconds on time line, add my audio like the slate, then match up the time code on each clip? When the slate it shown

Can you please tell me what slider you are using? I have the latest Rhino motion controlled slider, but have been trying to figure out a way to have it sync with the music. I didn't know it was even possible. I would love to know a little more about the hardware and/or software needed to this. Excellent video! Hey Steve, I’m using a camBLOCK Adventure motion control system. Unfortunately camBLOCK aren’t actively making the product anymore, but if you reach out them they may have some available. They occasionally come up on the second hand market. I’ve used a bunch of systems and camBLOCK (while not cheap) is by far the most capable. Glad you liked the episode - much appreciated 🤙🏻

Great tutorial 👌🏾👌🏾. Will give this a go next time. I’m just starting out attempting/doing music videos. I’ve used Bluetooth and a speaker so far, you say not to though. I have the wireless go 2 also. How would I use that with iPad and speaker? Is that how you meant?
@graetzmedia
@graetzmedia Жыл бұрын
Thanks! I only recommend avoiding Bluetooth as most of this systems have some inherent (and inconsistent) delay which makes it hard to sync accurately later. Bluetooth is getting better and better so hopefully that will change as it’s a super convenient way to run your setup. To use the Wireless Go just attach one of the transmitters on your iPad (maybe use Velcro or if your case has a handle or lanyard clip it onto that) and connect the 3.5mm cable between the Go and the iPad (you might need a Lightning or USB-C to 3.5mm adapter if your tablet doesn’t have a headphone Jack). Then connect the receiver to your speaker using another 3.5mm to 3.5mm cable (assuming your speaker has an aux input). You might need to tweak the gain settings on the Go transmitter/receiver if the volume you get is too high or low.

Thanks! I haven’t had a chance to be hands-on with the Ronin 4D yet. The main thing that kept me from it was the limitation with the kinds of lenses you could use on it. But there’s more options now (including anamorphics) - so it’s worth revisiting. I’d love to see how effective the Y-axis stabilisation is.

You’re talking about Dan Dugan or Auto Mic Mixing which are for audio only. This episode is about autonomous vision switching. I had AMM turned off on the SQ5 for this demo - but in future would prob use that in conjunction with VVD. But how the audio is treated for the FOH mix doesn’t effect the vision switching as the goal is to send pre-fader signals into VVD.

Again I want to love the Orions but why is your head warping up and to the right on them but your head is shaped perfectly on the Nanomorphs. You can see the same warping happening on the scissor lift on the left in the back compared to the nanomorph. That bothers the crap out of me.

The Atlas reveals a lot of astigmatism in the lens. Seems like it just can't focus sharply no matter what the focus. Also your head is warped in the Atlas as well. The Nanomorph, your head is perfect, not misshapened and wide like in the Orion.

I picked up a 27mm PL/EF mount with Gold flares thinking it might work on a gimbal and match my other 2x anamorphics. I liked it so much I ordered the 3 lens EF/PL Silver. BTW, I added the Fuji Wide angle adapter (82mm) to the front of the 27mm with great results! I highly suggest trying it. I've also been adding a black Mist filter to soften it a bit. Quite happy with them. Can't wait to see the upcoming 80mm
