I don't go to this congregation but this is sermon really resonated with me, before becoming a UU I was essentially a fundamentalist Catholic who surrounded himself with like minded people especially in my college years, in the end what made me question everything was finding out that many of those former friends seemed to really believe the world was only 6000 years old and displayed a hostility towards mainstream science (and last time I heard from them it seemed that they became anti-vaxxers) which made me question other things like Original Sin after years of cognitive dissonance (even back then I already had a great deal of respect for science and scientists). In a way during those years I exhibited a strong confirmation bias towards what I believed already (and the same could be said for some people in my family) and I fought the truth until the bitter end, more recently I realized that maybe this is why my faith transition was much more traumatic than I initially thought as I had to start over when realizing that my previous worldview was based on falsehoods. My congregation is probably smaller but it's lay led (and apparently it has a tradition of anti-clericalism) so maybe that sermon wouldn't have been very shocking for us, what attracted me to UU in the first place was the sense of community as I also ended up losing most of my friendships I made in my previous church after I left and for that I'm really grateful. Thank you for posting this service, really appreciate it.

Beautiful service, although as far as I know (as I was raised Catholic) that All Souls is supposed to commemorate the souls in Purgatory, not ordinary saints, and that's why praying for the departed is heavily emphasized as I was taught that being stuck in Purgatory is not meant to be pleasant at all (some say it's almost the same as hell but it's not eternal). I don't go to this congregation so thank you for posting recording.

Before hearing this, I think the difference between non-violent & pacifism is one endures abuse of others. The other doesn't have someone else threatening them. Neither reciprocate or retaliate violence.
