Thanks Orla, fantastic ideas. I've been doing the 100 day project and filling my first ever sketchbook as part of the process, on day 90 now, and have quite a few pages left to fill. These are both great ideas that I can't wait to try.

Great ideas! I know this isn't the sexiest video idea, but I would be so interested to see your cleanup process. Since you're using so many materials, I'd love to know how to clean your instruments, etc. I think that part is what holds me back from really letting loose. :)

@@OrlaStevens Maybe I overthink it. But I heard I'm not supposed to put acrylics down the drain and then I just get in my head about what I'm supposed to do and I make a mess :)
@perlagaffney47762 күн бұрын
@@TristenMacDonaldI have a solution for this. I have either an open journal, an old book, papers, canvas, anything like this and I brush off, wipe off all of my leftover acrylics onto these surfaces. What gets washed away is so minimal after this and I have little starters or collage fodder. Or just not put paint down the drains. 😊

Thank you for all this info! I'm so curious about which paper you use when you do your series paintings on watercolor paper. I want to try to do multiple paintings at a time like you do and wondering if you have a favorite paper to use.
@OrlaStevens5 күн бұрын
I'm still finding and exploring different types, but right now I'm loving Fabriano's 100% cotton cold pressed watercolour paper in extra white! The paper itself is lovely, I'm just on the hunt for the perfect tape as my usual go-to (tesa sensitive) isn't sticking quite as well. My fave budget is seawhite recycled watercolour paper, which takes mixed media really well!

I began painting representationally and continued like this for decades, but I came to realise that 'something' was missing. Then four years ago I began to work intuitively with abstracts. A couple of months ago I decided I wanted to find a way to paint the landscapes of the Artic and Antarctic which have always fascinated me. Having done some copies of some photos I got stuck because I wanted them to be abstracted. It was thanks to you that eventually found a way to do it. I followed your process and discovered three words that expressed why these areas moved me so much. My work now has so much more meaning for me. Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts, processes and beautiful work!

That is so beautiful, I’m so glad it helped you with your paintings! What a place to be inspired by, I hope to visit there too one day 🩵

Back in 1970 I worked cataloguing the art in the archives of the Scott Polar Research Institute in Cambridge . My love for the ice regions began then. But also then no women were allowed on Antarctica and there was definitely no tourism allowed. Times have changed 😄! I hope you manage to get there.
