I have an 1150v8 Perkins just like yours but without the cab no duels however mines got wide tires I never started mine with full throttle and never had any problems that one of the worst things you can do to a stone cold engine of any kind is start under full throttle and I've been a semi driver for over 45yrs. You'll end up with problems starting an engine that way. May god be with you...

Factory decals right on the tractor recommend to start full throttle until it runs smoothly in cold temperatures.

You never ever have the throttle up on a deisel engine that's been sitting more n a hour or so, that is hard on a engine to have it rev up when 1st started, especially wen it's cold, & it don't make no difference on starting, it's not a carbreathed gas engine, & I'm a American, I dunno wut Celsius is, we go by faranheit
@masseymannick Жыл бұрын
Factory cold starting instructions are to start with full throttle on this one and slowly idle down when it runs smooth.
@elephantcompany6061 Жыл бұрын
Ya that was a rough start trying to make the engine rev when it's not even firing on half the cylinders. I think wast the instructions are getting at is to give it some throttle for initial lightoff, then I would modulate the throttle just enough to keep the engine running, there is no need to be over 1000 rpm. Also, that fuel advance is reset by rpm, so your cancelling its effect once you over rev. I think these tractors had a foot throttle, I'd just use that for starting keeping it low and calm until oil pressure comes up and all the cylinders are on line.
@johngnipper8768 Жыл бұрын
Nick ,the button gives it 15% more fuel For starting .when rpm increases at successful engine start it resets the button .

Great 👍 I’m picking up my new 1975 Massey Ferguson 165 tomorrow. Super excited to put it to work, Would like to paint mine to brighten the faded paint. Mine looks in very good condition overall, Lights will need to be fixed and a couple dents in the fenders but seems to run like a top. The older man I purchased from had several old Massey Fergusons & one John Deere Tractor, He was in late 70s & had his dads MF135… that he said wasn’t for sale, And had an absolutely beautiful MF175, And another much much older Massey Ferguson antique… Anyway he knew his tractors and had worked on this 165 personally & said he had completely gone through it & full engine rebuild 5-6 years back ; so I’m hoping it will be a good one for my family.

I have used our family's 1962 MF50 with a 4 cyl Continental gas engine since 1976, when we bought our 93 acre farm. The ol' Massey came in the deal. I just bought a (year unknown) Massey Ferguson 165 with a 4 cylinder Perkins diesel. It looks to be in pretty good shape aside from some cosmetic stuff. The previous owner put a new hydraulic pump in it, but it leaked the fluid after they put the casing back together. Bad, or backward seals?? Anyway, they didn't even start it after that in fear of burning out a possibly empty hydraulic pump. They sold it to me for $1,500.as is. The almost new rear tires were worth that alone. I hauled it from their barn to a shop near me for investigation and repairs. Hopefully it will be back up and running soon.

@@masseymannick Thanks; been pleased with this one so far, Had to buy a few used implements & managed to drag a couple out from woods where they had been hidden in the brush for about 25 years, Despite the layer of mud & some rust, the auger & scrapper /leveler work well. I did have a local tractor shops give me a little scare when I went down to pick up a couple minor parts, they asked if mine was a Multi-Power? And although I was somewhat familiar with the term, seen it in a few ads while I was looking, I was not sure if mine was ? Nor did I have any real working knowledge of what that may have meant, The older owner, gave me a brief history of the multi power & how I’d better hope it’s not.. The other technician looked at a few photos I had taken & assured me that he didn’t believe mine was as it didn’t have any evidence of the operational lever or stickers being removed from where it would have been, and agreed the tractor appears to have the original factory paint, thus no alterations to hide if the multipower had been removed. Furthermore the older owner gave me an additional brief overview of where to look or what to look for to assure that it hadn’t had that option in the past & had been removed. Fortunately- as my research has shown, mine never had this option- They explained that although it was a good idea; Later it was plagued with issues & any dealer or anyone that knowledgeable about MAssey Fergusons would not be interested should I want to sell it in the future - We’ve had so so much rain, I haven’t been able to give this as much usage as I’d like but it’s been of tremendous help so far. Hade a blessed day!
@masseymannick2 жыл бұрын
@@darinbarfield8738 interesting, where I’m from I’ve never heard a single complaint about multi power. All of my older Massey’s but one have it and the feature gives no problems whatsoever. It’s a pretty simple feature with not a lot that can go wrong, and easy to rebuild. Engine braking only works in high range on those. If yours isn’t a multi power it will have engine breaking in all gears and I believe should be an 8 speed gearbox?

You mean that the Red and Flint Metallic Paint is lesser than Green ? Additionally the Massey would have far more Power. I had a 4640 and was anything but impressed with it’s Power or should l say the lack of it. The Deere’s Sound Guard Body topped the first series Massey by far.
