Brilliant player. He has always been primarily (and rightfully!) praised as the ultimate scoring machine, but what often goes under the radar is also his great technique - Alan was not as flashy or dribbling-oriented like his Brazilian peers, but his first touch and ball control, especially while in full speed, were nothing short of fantastic. Shearer was fast, strong, skilled, immensly talented and he always, and I mean ALWAYS delivered, often in spectacular ways. One of the best that ever played the game.

Record scorer my arse. Greaves 357. Bloomer (who retired in 1914) 315. Dean 308. Hodgson 295. Shearer 283. Has anyone ever chirped about finishing 5th more than Shearer? In League terms he's 20th on the list. The top five being Rowley, Dean, Greaves, Bloomer, and Camsell. So he needs to pipe down a bit and show a bit of respect to the main goalscorers in history.

As a Blackburn rovers fan I can only admire him as a striker . But I agree with you about him not being record league scorer but he's never actually said that. It's always been put to him in the premier league era and while he's technically record scorer in this he's never said he's all time top scorer as far being disrespectful I think your going ott as he's never said anything but admiration for the old guys. He's record scorer for nufc and rightly should be proud of that record. He was a goal machine and whatever way you brand the football pyramid I've been lucky enough in my life time to see my little football club take on the big boys and win . Record scorer? No. Legend? Absolutely.

Despite being the record scorer it's baffling how much people still underrate how good he actually was. The best finisher in the world at the time IMO. In later years he adapted his game and the sheer power coupled with accuracy that he could generate was terrifying.

The title says Premier League goals, for which Shearer holds the record of 260. He moved from Southampton to Blackburn in 1992; the first season of the new Premier League. His Southampton goals are credited to First Division. This video also ignores all of his goals in youth leagues, friendlies, domestic cups, European competitions and those for England. Those don't count either.

RVN and T Henry battling each other for the Golden Boot for 5 years straight. I used to think Van Nistelrooy was a player with zero skills compared to Henry. Looking back now, RVN had something no other player had. He could read where the ball would land. His position skills is world class if that's a thing.
