I loved this era of golf before the technology got out of control.

Crazy to think that Lehman only won 5 PGA TOUR titles. He should've nabbed at least a U.S. Open (including the one in '96) to go with this title. This wasn't his best round but the 64 on day 3 gave him enough of a cushion to win. The putt on 15 to save par is what I always think won him the tournament.

It likely didn’t cost him a stroke unless he somehow got up and down from the thick rough. Didn’t cost him the open.

It was sad how Duval's career nosedived because of vertigo and injuries shortly after this Open but I'm glad he was able to get his major championship.

so the 2021 winner Morikowa didn't even make the cut. How ignominious. He was my favorite player but not anymore. After this sort of choke he will probably never win another major.

With all of those feet looking for a ball, what would have been the ruling if someone kicked the ball out of a worse spot? With all of those feet nobody would have ever been able to recreate the same condition?

Rose went pro right after this tournament but struggled a lot. I remember Sports Illustrated was close to calling him a bust. But by 2002 he started to find something and then took off by 2002 with a few wins in Europe and South Africa.

Henry Longhurst's live commentary on the 18th is astonishing - he, somehow, knew what was going to happen from the second Doug's approach shot landed past the pin. The beautiful sympathy in his voice is wonderful to listen to even all these years later.
@ysgol39 күн бұрын
Doug's bunker shot on the 17th is as great a shot as has EVER been played in a major championship - I've been a links golfer for 50+ years and, believe me, shots from lies like that in deep bunkers are almost impossible. It's so so sad that what happened on the 18th has left it pretty much forgotten - as is the fact that he missed a two by a whisker on the final playoff hole. Had it gone in and had Jack missed his putt Doug would have won! If, if if....
