Question: On the Icom 7000 control head when the factory separation cable needs to be removed, two tabs need to be squeezed together in order to released the cable. With the backside cover plate in the DM5AL video that you made above, it looks like that cover plate prevents access to those release tabs. I’m afraid that once installed, this may never come off ??? Or… Maybe this DM5AL cover plate does not fully engage (snap in place) the separation cable hold tabs so the tabs never “snap” onto the DM5AL cover plate allowing removal by just sliding off ??? Maybe ??? Thank you in advance for any clarification about how to REMOVE the DM5AL separation cover plate from the Icom 7000 control head 😊. Bill - W7JZE

Hi, I know this is over your old purse year. I want to install the CB radio on my 2006 special edition with the GPS and is it very difficult to put in? Also and I am a ham radio operator. Would it be difficult to mod the Honda Goldwing radio CN with other bands ?
@michaelw7053 Жыл бұрын
Unless you ride with a group that uses CB for comms, I would skip the install. The install for your year is different than my 2012 so I suggest you visit the goldwing riders group and ask there. The group is a huge source of great information. As for ham radio, interfacing the PTT on the bars is easy IF you don't have the CB installed. Running both the cB and a ham radio is a task.

Did it fix it?

YES. The OEM factory relay is current driven. That way when a bulb burns out, the turn signals will flash faster. IF all the incandescent bulbs were replaced with LEDs (drawing 10% of the original current) the flash rate goes to HYPER flash. The LED Relay is electronic. That means its flash rate is independent of the current that is being drawn in the circuit. The only issue is that you need to check your turn signals occasionally.

Is it give the same reading with the led meter found in a mixer console?
@michaelw7053 Жыл бұрын
NO. It is useless for any calibrated display of audio level. The lights look nice....

@@michaelw7053 may be it intended to use in cunsomer audio, did you try to add input trimpot?
@michaelw7053 Жыл бұрын
I tried that and a few other ideas as well. It was a while ago but no matter what setup was used, the repeatability just wasn't there. I could never get to a point where it was "calibrated". Sure did look cool though. I'd use it to verify that there's audio present but that's about all.

I originally purchased the SKT-7000 kit from DM5AL using the HDMI cable. I went back online to look for the instruction manual again, and noticed he had a revised SKT-7000 kit using the CAT and RCA cable so I inquired. Per DM5AL it seems there were issues with using the HDMI cable, and you needed to have the right one for it to work correctly, hence the new design.

Does it have to be Cat6?
@michaelw70532 жыл бұрын
Depending on length and the amount of HF RF that's floating around. I was the customer that posted the video, not the ham that made the kit. But.... I think the idea behind the shielded cat 6 was just to fight RF issues that may arise. If you are using 100 watts and a resonant antenna with little or no RF in the shack, I'd try a normal cat 5. If you are a mobile configuration I'd make sure to have a handful of clamp on ferrites in case of stray RF issues.... As always, YMMV. 73 K2MPW

Very cool! I looked up his seperation kit that uses an HDMI to mini HDMI cable... that looks more practical! de N6AMF...

My radio won't pick up any radio stations what do I need to do
@michaelw70533 жыл бұрын
If you are referring to your CB as the radio, the very first thing is to lower the squelch setting to 1. Make sure the bikes display doesn't have a set of headphones next to the CB indication. If it does, just press and hold the CB button until the display changes. It may also be a press it again kinda thing, it's been a while... If you have the volume up and the CB set for speakers and you dont hear static, sum ting is very wong. If you hear static but cant find any humans, find a 2 stroke leaf blower and start it up near the bike, with the blower at idle, you should hear the ignition noise from its engine. That test is a quick and dirty test to make sure the CB isnt electronically deaf.

Good to know this is available!!! Love my IC7000. I’ve been worried that when I switch cars that my existing separation cable will not be long enough. This seems to solve that worry nicely. Thanks for the video. Good job 👍 W7JZE

Thanks, I did it as a way to clarify what the kit was about. The only negative thing about it is that it's not as secure as the factory cable system. If I were to use it in a car, I'd think of a way to better secure the control head to the PCB. It IS the only game in town and for that, we should all be thankful that DM5AL made the effort that ICOM didn't bother with.
