Why not figure out the guidelines before you demolish all of the existing ones? Sounds like we're going to go a couple months without.

I saw photos currently as of this week, they put elevated platforms that are aligned with the sidewalk and jersey barriers, in the following weeks they are adding an over top and plants and etc more. They even accommodate for rain so there's no need to worry about water not reaching drains. They are moving really fast, so more like a month versus months.

For unprotected pedestrian crossings of 4 lanes or more: as the case here in Sydney Australia, considering making some crosswalks (zebra crossings) double as speed bumps. These are called "Wombat crossings". They have ramp gradients of 1: 15 to 1: 20 are generally considered bicycle-friendly. The height and length of the platform can vary, with some being up to 100 mm high and 4.5 m long, depending on local conditions and requirements. They're common here, so you don't need to reinvent the wheel: www.movementandplace.nsw.gov.au/standards/design-solutions/raised-pedestrian-wombat-crossing

As a pedestrian who frequently uses the HAWK signals along 16th St NW, I have to say that they do not live up to their hype. To activate the signal, a pedestrian must stand ~2 feet from the curb, alongside cars going well over the posted speed limits, often in excess of 40mph. Wait times for a crossing signal often take more than 2:00-2:30, and cars will speed up to get through the yellow (or even red) lights at the beginning of the walk cycle. Lastly, the period between a full red signal and a flashing red signal is far too short. All in all, these HAWK signals are window dressing to obscure the obvious conclusion that DDOT cares only about auto traffic. Pedestrians are an afterthought, and we will continue to be injured and killed on our shared roads.

Absolutely pitiful that this is where we end up after the community overwhelmingly made its voice clear that change was desired. Democracy at work. The parking lane is a dumb idea regardless of a bike lane’s presence btw. Parallel parkers are always going to block the second lane when braking; traffic certainly won’t improve. This community is along one of the best transit systems in America but it’s lifeless compared to places like 14th street because of Connecticut’s current layout. Not to mention it’s just an ugly, outdated design. Stop accommodating the trend of increased car sizes, and stop subsidizing the travel of Marylanders who should be taking the metro at the expense of our community and our safety

This is a terribly regressive policy which will only result in more pedestrian fatalities in order to cater to nimbys and rich developers. The city needs to focus on making it's streets safer for pedestrians rather than catering to car dependency. The fact that protected bike lanes are not included in this proposal just shows you how much of a disdain the leadership has for the inhabitants of this area. But hey, who cares how many more kids die in traffic fatalities along Conn Ave as long as there is a buck to be made and Bowser can attend her gold tournys on the Taxpayer dime.

I cannot figure out how to print a visitor pass from the app. Its also very confusing to use the label "permit" for a year long right to obtain passes. Most people think of the pass itself as a permit, making use of this application very confusing.

There is nothing easy to understand about how this app or website works. Is it necessary, for instance, that the visitor download the app or can I just print out a permit they can shove on their dashboard? Where are the "tutorial" videos referred to in the app? And as for the "fully-staffed" phone center, I waited on hold over 6 mins before talking to someone who eventually informed me they have repeatedly extended the expiration date on the old hard copy permits because they haven't been able to fully convert to this new system yet. No surprise there.
