Never found this show funny, and never found myself laughing at this type of comedy, i.e., people doing stupid stuff. Or more accurately, stupid people being stupid.

This broadcasting must have been before MAY 1976, before the first Concorde Airplane landed in the USA/NY in MAY 1976. Many Americans (see Arte Johnson at 10:45) fueled by negative propaganda by "Pan American World Airways" and "Trans World Airlines" resented this British‐French cooperation for the supersonic airliner "Concorde" (only because they couldn't get their own supersonic project from the ground). A Headline of the time said: The Daily Express, under the headline, “The Great American Double ‐ Cross,” wrote: “Let's face it: The Americans dislike intensely even the thought of buying British planes. And they would cheerfully kill off the British aircraft industry if we were mad enough to allow them.”

Despite the majority of acts shown, were downright awful but fun, some actually were quite good on an amateur level, like the boogie woogie dancers shown here. Also the singer/juggler lady on another episode, had real talent.

Oh Gawd I remember this. Ive always thought it was terrible and loved it to death. I was in 6th or 7th grade. Im not sure if I was skipping school to see it. We always tried to get more stoned than Chuck looked. Not an easy task because it was all still imported and had seeds. It was s fun to see it again. I do agree with you all saying its the best version of Americas got Talent.

Great thing about the Gong Show was that the contestants didn't take themselves so seriously. It was all for entertainment and FUN, and the novelty of "being on television". This is something that shows like "The Voice" or "America/Britain/Australia's Got Talent" totally get WRONG. The modern shows are essentially looking to convert their contestants into money makers, and "Candid Camera" the rest in a series of truly murderous out-takes. Bring back the "Gong Show" attitude towards ENTERTAINMENT PLEASE!

On the various "Got talent" shows, they did show auditions held with people who were terrible acts. The only difference is that the persons in question actually thought they had talent, unlike the Gong Show, where you just participated for fun.
