Focusing on just these scenes ignores the fact that the film was beautifully animated and, for its time, not at all unusual for visiting complex themes and disturbing imagery. To me, it's no worse than, say, the rat scene in Lady and the Tramp or Maurice lost in the woods in Beauty and the Beast, scenes that really impacted me as a kid, or truly challenging stories like Bambi, The Plague Dogs and Grave of the Fireflies. Even in the present day there are all sorts of disturbing things in kids' films, from Disney's Tarzan where you can clearly see a guy get hung to death, to Harry Potter which literally is about blood racism and shows you dead bodies (Cedric) and mutilation (Pettigrew visibly cutting off his own hand). Obviously if you're a parent, you retain the choice as to whether you want your kids to watch such things or not, but whatever the choice, simply labeling something as too difficult is never the right reason to hide something. Sorry not sorry, but parenting is hard work and part of that work is making sure your kids understand the realities of life. Manageable doses of violence (animal-on-animal, as in nature documentaries or cartoons like this) actually make it incredibly easy to explain things like death to kids, it's just that you have to put in the effort. If you're too lazy, apathetic or emotionally weak yourself to do it, that's not the films' fault.

This seriously makes Rick and morty and most adult cartoons look like preschool shows

I LOVED this movie when I was a kid in elementary school. I LOVED the animation and the story about survive and friendship. It is the best movie. My son (4 years) also love this movie. It is a fantastic movie for all generations.

This is the most disturbing thing I've ever watched movie i was born this so brutal (gore) in this era, our movies used to be beautiful because of the old form of their graphics like that scary, imagination, nightmares, unknown things anythings and now today (Modern era) the movie like this are makes more pretty gore brutal past 30 years from now😭

It’s so crazy and interesting to see the forms of media people create. I’m a high schooler and this is still terrifying to me. Especially because it seems like a children’s movie

I remember owning the vhs tape I didn't watch it till I was old enough to watch it. I can see why the scenes would be too disturbing for kids I showed my parents these scenes, they were shocked and didn't realized that they bought a movie that would be disturbing for kids.

Wow I’m getting chills. I told my mom the exact same thing once. I have never seen this movie. I told her , look at the room can you see the walls are covered in blood. And I did the exact same thing that rabbit did. My mom thought I was dreaming but no, I was wide awake. Nothing happend, my parents split but that’s normal. I think.

People used to think that if it's animated it's a kids movie. Oh boy were they wrong.

What makes it even more terrifying is the sound design. Sinister music and the heavy breathing and gurgling when they're dying. Dont make stuff like this anymore.

It's certainly not a movie for young or sensitive kids. What with rabbits getting caught in snares, dogs with blood on their fangs slaughtering rabbits etc plus more gruesome scenes. But hey, it's true to life of what they have to go through in the wild.

1970s and 1980s media for kids was a lot more daring, and didn't treat kids like idiots who could only feel happy feelings by looking at a funny yellow minion.
