Welcome back! Just moved to huntington and ive had NO LUCK on the pier.

Ahoy Rylan - Huntington Beach pier has always been a challenging place for me to fish back in the day. Originally being from Westminster, CA, I have always gone to HB for surfing and Seal Beach for fishing. Just remember, anything caught off these piers should be catch and release, for the toxins in the fish are off the charts. I hope my videos may inspire you to give SB a try. Thank you for your positive comment and support for my channel.

Thank you so much for your awesome comment and to your son for sharing my channel with your family. Being able to induce our younger generation to different hobbies and sports is just as rewarding as teaching them a subject in the classroom, and to receive a positive comment from a parent is one of the highest honors that let me know I have inspired someone.

I remember fishing that pier when ruby’s restaurant and tackle shop was on that pier

Ahoy Banjo - Good days! I would ride the cattle boats under the pier, and bribe my daughter with a cherry cola from Ruby's if she would to the end with me.

I usually go dropper loop! What’s your bait or choice for your bottom rigs besides baitfish??
@grumpygnomefishing Жыл бұрын
Thank you for your comment, and to address the question regarding bait, I prefer anchovy or fresh mackerel fillets (oily fish). Out of desperation, I might catch smelt, and then scale and fillet these. One of these days I might flyline live smelt in the surf zone for halibut, but that will be a new episode. I always prefer fresh baits over frozen. Thank you again for your comment and support for my channel.

Ahoy Blake - As your sub, I have to correct your spelling. I believe what you meant to say was, "You were our sub." Thank you for the comment, and I hope you enjoy my channel.

@@grumpygnomefishing Of course. Went there yesterday and caught a small perch on my sabiki! No luck other than that but I'm glad I spent the day outside. Any recommendations for time of day?

@@rylan3917 It was awesome meeting you at Seal Beach Pier on Fri. 2/10/23, I'm glad we got a little action (stingray), and I should probably post times/dates for future trips. I hope to see you on the water again soon!

Hey thanks for the videos. Just moved to the area and I'm collecting local information and this stuff is gold for me to know what's going on here on the piers. Thanks again.

Love your channel I’m gonna go this weekend! Hopefully I catch something I’m planning for mackerel for cut bait and then hopefully I get on a nice halibut!
@grumpygnomefishing2 жыл бұрын
Ahoy Youreverydayrider! Thank you so much for your awesome comment, and I hope my content helps make for a fun day. If halibut is your target, you may want to go with the smaller hook Sabiki rig, and use live smelt as your bait on a sliding-egg sinker setup. Mackerel will also work, but you will have to tolerate the sharks and rays that will dominate your catch. Best of luck on your trip... and thank you so much for the new SUBSCRIBE!

You can cast overhand on a pier as long as no one is behind you fact they don’t stop you from casting over head and to catch mackerel use a sybiky fact mackerel amd smelt bite on the top and bottom both
