Looks like fun! great job. Hey, I just bought a YZ125 for trail riding-- It sounds like you are feathering the crap out of that clutch and killing the bike on a few occasions. Were you in the wrong the gear or is your gearing too tall? Are you running your bike stock? I haven't ridden my bike on the trail yet, but i'd like to hear your suggestions on any changes you have made, or would like to make to your bike to make it more trail friendly. Thanks, and keep these videos coming. Matt

Hey I appreciate the comment, the bike is actually geared lower than stock for more power down low for this type of single track, so bringing the rpms up in each gear for that reason, 125s don't have much down low until you get into the power band, as you could hear, that was actually first gear anytime you saw me going slow stop and go, these trails were very hilly, you can't just tractor along on a 125 unless your on flatter more open trails or faster single track, this was slow technical stuff, wasn't great on the 125 and my idle could have been turned up a bit for this ride, that's how you have to ride a 125 in this type of riding, clutch feathering otherwise it will stall out like you can see once or twice where I tried to go up something without being in the powerband, I would hit the power band and fly up on straight hill climbs, this had technical roots and stuff that I couldn't hit hard like that, a 4 stroke could go up slow like a tractor without stalling out, on a 125 you need to either fly up in the powerband or feather the clutch or stall out, the only mod on this bike is a different sprocket, I love it on open trails and faster less technical single track, this was my first time riding that technical stuff so I also wasn't at my best, my buddy on the 4 stroke was tractoring up it all with ease

Watch my other 125 videos and you'll see a better representation of the bike on more open trails and faster single track, thanks for watching and enjoy the new bike!

@@Sventy11 The Africa twin is awesome, you will like the 650 because it can do road and highway pretty good, but when you get offroad it feels like a big dirt bike where the Africa twin feels more like an adventure bike

@Advrich yeah thats exactly what I'm going for! I really like the AT offroad. It feels good to me. I had a crf450rl a couple years ago but I couldn't stand the throttle twitch. I'm thinking the 650 will be nice power and a good old fashioned bike.

Do not go too far off the beaten path. The KLR is NOT up to the task.. An asphalt cruiser, grocery getter at best.
@Advrich8 ай бұрын
I agree, it can do very light trails/ gravel roads ok, but more than that won't go well, that's what I use my trail bike for, I like the klr on the backroads and to ride an hour away to an ohv area with alot of flat logging roads
@spencervidal31688 ай бұрын
@@Advrich I acquired a 05 first gen bike down here in Guatemala and have been building it up on a resto/mod. And riding it around down here. It has not faired well and I believe the bike as a whole is way over hyped. Having spent the last two years constantly working on this bike I would NOT recommend this antiquated turd to anyone..
@Advrich8 ай бұрын
@@spencervidal3168 I agree, this is the first klr I've owned and it's not at all what I thought it was. Just got it a month ago with only 8000 miles on it but it needed a ton of work right away. I have a love hate relationship with it but will probably sell it after making some content with it. It honestly sucks at everything, I thought it would be better offroad, never expect to take it on gnarly trails, but it doesn't do well even in the basic trails where I thought it would shine. It is very comfortable and nice for cruising around on road, but it doesn't respond well to being ridden even a little bit hard on road, it doesn't like to down shift and brake hard is what's bothered me the most, the wheel hops if you downshift "too hard" or even slow down hard in too high of a gear, it's borderline dangerous if you aren't aware of that issue, and when I say too hard, it's a level that should be perfectly fine to not spin the wheel, but it does. I've ridden many bikes and never experienced that before, you should be able to shift from 5th to 4th and brake with the engine braking without skipping a beat. Have you experienced anything like that on your klr or is there something wrong with mine? It's like the gearing is always too high and doesn't fit offroad or on road riding.
@spencervidal31688 ай бұрын
@@Advrich Well The brakes are spec. for a 125 cc bike. I go through pads every couple of months. The suspension is a joke. Soft wallowing sponges all around. I have replaced the front fork seals three times as the bushings once. The rear shock seal twice. The "Doohiky"/ balancer chain tensioner needs to be replaced to prevent catastrophic engine damage and the thermo bob for the cooling system as well.. The weight, north of 500 lbs with an absurd high center of gravity. Hard down shifts will chatter the wheel on asphalt as well as dirt kicking the rear out every time. I went down one tooth on the front sprocket and get a bit better throttle response on and off road, but then there are only 5 speeds.. It burns oil like a diesel truck as well. My seat is a brick and replacements are ludicrously expensive. I have been a rider for more than 40 years and this is the single worst bike I have owned.. PERIOD. And I have owned some shitty Chinese bikes down here. People need to STOP waving the KLR flag it is an antiquated turd and always has been. And in this day and age there are similarly priced much better bikes than this thing. I would recommend that you get rid of that thing before it turns into a hole you shovel money into. There are NO redeeming attributes to that turd and spread the word..
@Advrich8 ай бұрын
@@spencervidal3168 well said and all facts! So it's not just me with wheel chatter/ hop on downshift, so weird that it does that, you need to be able to downshift hard for engine braking while braking hard in an emergency stop situation, like I said it's dangerous. I'll be listing it for sale soon

How are people so stupid? Has anyone ever told you not to accelerate on an off multiple times while riding, the shits gonna blow up and its going to suck to fix because its either you want to pay for a new engine or buy a new bike because nobody knows how to do the first part.
@Advrich8 ай бұрын
What are you talking about? Lol sounds like you've never ridden a day in your life? Would it be better for the engine to keep it pinned all day? Lol, I've had this bike for years and have ran all my top ends to almost 200 hours with no failure, opened it up to swap and the piston still looked great, and my bottom ends go to 500 hours with no failure either lol, I can and do rebuild engines from top to bottom

@@Advrich I added grease to my new 2021 125, hardly any from the factory, check the headset bearings too. The exhaust port of the cylinder needs polishing too way too rough from the factory. You'll get a cleaner smoother powerband. Leave the intake rough but smooth out any sharp edges. Planning to match the cylinder to main cases, had spotted some casting globs through the intake port. All about airflow on the smokers!
