Keep em coming buddy! I've been playing the cntrlfreak's list without Tamiyo and having a bit of a harder time than the pre MH3 (your list). I think things will come around. For what it's worth I really don't think Harbinger is great, that one swamp will fuck your day up more often than not.

About the nethergoyf discussion - have you played around at all with Stalactite Stalker or Delver? I've been looking more and more at legacy lists and played around with both. For me (in my lgs meta), delver is more "cute", it's satisfying to flip turn 2 but not as guaranteed as it is in legacy without brainstorm etc. However, Stalker has been treating me well. You have a 1 drop that gets a +1 counter on turn 1, if it sticks around it only grows each turn (with fetches and bauble), and it doesn't compete for the graveyard as goyf does. It's definitely not at the same power level, but I think it's a happy medium that I missed when taking them out to test mh3 stuff. At least for me, not having a 1 drop has definitely been missed when I don't have it.

Thank you! I just did a short stream with Frog and Murktide yesterday. Was only able to get through 3 matches but it was a pretty strong combo when both on the battlefield. As for why Dimir, it’s mostly due to that stack interaction. Most other Shadow decks kind of have to race opponents but Dimir gets to control the game while still having a lot of the same fun gameplay decisions and life total management.

I just want to say I'm a big fan, I play your pre MH3 list and watching your chanel has really improved my game. I'm sure you are much better at shadow than I am, however I have some thoughts on this build and I know you're only in the testing stage so please feel free to call me out or correct me. Harbinger in the side is a little unnecessary, I would say spreading seas does the job for cheaper and draws a card, also 1 swamp in the main is VERY awkward. Frog, gyof, and murktide all seem to be be NON-BOs working against each other. Sure frog draws cards but murktide ends games. The deck does not really rely on the GY with the exception of Murktide, adding frog and gyof now make it weaker to GY hate peices. And lastly I think the deck did get some decent tools. Sink into stupor is an upgrade to otawara either to replace or an extra copy. 1 or 2 Deluge in the side is great as well as 1 or 2 consign to memory. But I would seriously consider the pre MH3 build with just a few of the new tools rather than a big overhaul. Still we will have to see how the meta shakes out.
@MurmursMTG
@MurmursMTG Ай бұрын
All valid points. Usually, when testing new cards, you want to test as many of them as possible to get a sense of how they play and then adjust as needed. No question that Goyf, Frog and Murktide are flighting too much and I’ll be playing various combinations of 2 of the 3 moving forward until I find what I like best. I personally don’t like Spreading Seas as it’s typically not disruptive enough against anything other than Urza’s Saga. I’d rather have Break the Ice if I’m not on Harbinger. I’ve been too busy with other stuff to play since this upload but will be back to streaming next week and will be diving deeper into testing now that the meta is starting to develop more clearly. The Pro Tour should also help give some perspective on what’s best.

We’ll see what the MH3 meta looks like. If there’s a lot of card draw floating around then I still want them. They’re also just good at being a threat against non interactive decks like Tron that can win the game quickly enough if they stumble or need to draw a lot to find full Tron. I can definitely see cutting down to 2 or 3 depending on how things shake up next week. Can’t imagine I’d want none so long as Ragavan is around. That little monkey can have such massive swings against us given how many 1 CMC spells we have.

if I want to play shadow in mtgo, how does it works? I mean, can I build the deck playing the game, like arena or I must buy the deck or singles? I've never played mtgo btw
@MurmursMTG
@MurmursMTG 2 ай бұрын
It is not like arena. You can either buy the cards using stores like cardhoarder.com or goatbots.com. For someone that’s new to MTGO I would recommend cardhoarder as the easier way to buy cards until you’ve gotten comfortable with the “trade” feature within the platform. There’s also rental services where you can pay a monthly fee to be able to have access to a certain dollar value worth of cards and you have to rent them every time you want to play the deck. This is a cheaper option initially but if you’re playing over a long period of time and only want to play 1 deck then I’d recommend buying the deck. Both of the websites listed above should have resources on their respective websites to help you understand the process. Good luck!

I'm a new shadow player so thank you very much for your content. I have a question: why not -1 fetch (or darkslick?) +1 swamp? Against the coffers mu they have so much land destruction. Also considering vs blood moon/magus of the moon decks.
@MurmursMTG
@MurmursMTG 3 ай бұрын
You’re welcome! Hope it can be of help as you navigate the archetype! I’ve played with 1 swamp and 2 islands back in October and had success with it but blood moon and coffers decks had kind of died down over the last few months that I switched back to just islands as swamps can really mess up some of your efficiency. If your local meta is full of Blood Moon and Coffers then I’d definitely recommend a Swamp over Darkslick.

@MurmursMTG
@MurmursMTG 3 ай бұрын
Hey! Absolutely! I think we’re likely to have a lot more really good SB cards available to us, like Toxic Deluge and Disruptor Flute. It’s also possible that Necrogoyf is something we want to have in the 60 as it can act as a nice beater, even if only a 3/4 or 4/5, while also being targeted by removal that would have otherwise been used on Shadows or Murktides. Who knows what the format looks like after MH3, but it looks to be moving into an interesting place.

There would need to be a graveyard focused combo deck at the very top of the meta that folds to losing one piece of the combo for me to want surgical. Esper Goryo doesn’t fold to losing access to Goryo’s Vengeance and isn’t prominent enough for me to want Surgicals right now.

What do you think of splashing for pick your poison?
@MurmursMTG
@MurmursMTG 4 ай бұрын
This is a question I’ve gotten enough times that I’ve decided I’ll put a Green splash list together and try it so that I can give people a more data driven response. I don’t feel like it’s necessary as I’ve had a lot of success with what I’ve got and the Domain matchup has been above average. If it’s clear that making the splash improves Domain drastically and helps elsewhere then I’ll likely do the splash until MH3 drops. I’ll add that I really don’t like not having perfect mana for how interactive my version on UB Shadow has to be. Like, missing out on turns where you need double black (a lot of lines require it for pure efficiency) because I’m splashing for a SB card that ends up being no better than what I was doing without the splash is not at all where I’d prefer to be. But, yeah, I’ll test it so I’m not just telling you something I can’t validate/back up.
