Family and friends of this forever young, beautiful and sweet lady. As a listened to this report on Miya, my heart began to break. As a mother of two young adults, it’s never easy to loose someone you love. When you loose someone to a senseless murder at the hands of someone who just didn’t understand niceness. If she was open and honest he pouted and got his feelings hurt. He had sat this up in his own mind, and he couldn’t handle it when she actually rejected him. When he couldn’t take no and wouldn’t take no. I’m sorry that her disappearance wasn’t taken seriously. The wrongful death lawsuit and the one against the Sheriff’s department, and I’m not one to say this because I always “BACK THE BLUE “, I would say it’s time for a new group of officers. The town won’t be able to afford to many more of these high mistakes. God Bless Family and friends.

My parents never sent me to overnight camp and I always hated I didn't get to go. But years later I learned about this. My parents were Early 20's in Oklahoma (A few towns over from this area) when this happen, about 10 years before I was born. It all made sense then, how could you even imagine sending your daughter to a camp after having to live through this so close to home. We live in Seattle now and we moved here around the time the Green River killer was still at large. Needless to day, my parents were very protective of me my entire young life.

The intro states the fact that makes this case so unique and intriguing to so many: the short window that she disappeared in: 6-8 minutes. Other disappearances can be narrowed to a window of approximately 20-30 minutes. There's no other case that can be cited by any sources where a disappearance happened in such a narrow window. My opinion as a therapist in short: The call from her sister at 10pm on 2/8/04 telling Maura she had relapsed on the way home from treatment stimulated the actuality of Maura's own alcoholism and imminent unraveling of the illusion she's created via beguiling all. Primary characteristics: escape, denial, impulsivity, compulsory wayward behaviour coupled with no precise destination, with the objective to dull or numb all emotional uneasiness by drinking unmolested by all external factors and using euphoric shield from physical intimacy (she was travelling an irregularly long distance with minimal personals but a surplus of birth control) Secondary: Drinking alone, purchasing more alcohol than one person can consume in a single day, deceit, lying, tertiary: unlikely alibis, theft, multiple car crashes in short period, closet drinking, loss of sense of self, esteem, and fortitude, actualisation one's overachieving cannot continue- a lacking of peripheral distractions in others' purviews (no more sports playing by her), revealing the actual scope of her character and abilities, no concern for personal insolvency financially, red herrings, good intentions backed by no action. Conclusory opinion: She is (i use present tense it of respect) an alcoholic or at minimum problem drinker who cannot predict an end result after any singular drinking period nor does she concern herself with with probable negative consequences after or while drinking. Not a sociopath in the least (as I've seen in many comments), as this diagnosis in my opinion is impossible without personal interaction or a much larger body of evidence after anti-social behaviour (that does not mean one is shy or an introvert or avoids parties or people, it means one's behaviour does not comport with pro-social norms), and she displayed empathy and love with tangible evidence. Theft and deceit alone do not come close to sociopathy. Her mental faculties were operating in maximum capacity (all her actions showed no inhibited intellect, rather, she showed high intellect in creating a ruse that fooled all parties) but reactions to emotional unrest were unhealthy and risky, furthering my opinion she was a problem drinker at minimum. With proper treatment i would rate her improvement potential as above average if willingness is present. Overall I would submit she is an average college student in behaviour and vices, a slight lack of honesty and integrity as a youth, not quite in adulthood yet, signals to me no lack of moral compass (however i would add she is susceptible to losing that moral compass if injurious actions to self and others outweigh good intentions, in which case intentions become abstractions and have zero value in external world but justifies poor choices in her psyche) a high capacity and intention for loving family interrupted by her poor choices- which negates all capacities and intentions. Recognises managing her life is becoming difficult but is wholly unaware why, alcohol is not her problem, it is her solution to numbing her internal conflict. Intellect high enough to realise self examination will reveal traits she is not fond of. She chose to escape that self examination by creating a large distance from the epicenter of her life, with intentions to continue schoolwork, intentions of giving accident forms to father, but follow through unknowable, an overall good daughter and sister, low capacity to handle life's problems and negative emotions (highly common at her age) caused by a low executive function in her brain (or ability to use good reason that allows one to manage their life) that can be induced by a wide range of causes including her intrinsic personality from birth to physical or emotional trauma. I disagree with the opinions that she is a kleptomaniac or lacks a conscience. In totally, a wholesome individual unfortunately seemingly headed for improper relief in her life through alcohol, lacking the fortitude (likely an unfortunate intrinsic trait and not lack of morality) in overcoming her fear and revealing her own weaknesses and asking for help, counselling, assistance, etc. Fate: Falling victim to an opportunistic predator (who yanked her out of the car as she was attempting to toss wine in woods before police arrive as all would, causing a struggle and explanation for red wine stains in massive amounts in car including ceiling, that a 180 degree light descent into a ditch could not physically cause, explaining why she was never seen again away from the vehicle in a window where all witnesses were not observing collectively) who took her life in a scenario where statistically one has a higher chance of hitting the Power Ball lottery than being abducted and slain in Woodsville, Haverhill, NH, in a 6-8 minute window.

Missing and exploited children was Noreen’s doing and the 72 hour waiting period to report someone missing especially a child went to going into immediate action to look for a missing child. The first 48 hours is the most important time frame.

Parents please see and know who your kids friends are. Talk to them, educate them about drugs or even not to ever take any drinks or food from so called friends because you never know. You have to become their friend but also a parent with authority and wisdom.

She was crying after chatting with Kathleen because in her mind, that would be the last time she talked to her. She bought the booze to help her cope with leaving everyone and everything behind. Someone was trailing her and picked her up at the perfect moment when no one was looking. She ran away to live a new identity. Just my opinion. But, after all this time, she would've contacted her loved ones by now.

It's bizarre why some women date/get pregnant by violent thugs ,instead of avoiding them. Why on Earth would she date someone like that in the 1st place, ESPECIALLY when she had kids ??? What he did isn't surprising. His background already showed a pattern.

My grandmother knew Johnny's mother back in the 70s (they were near neighbors in Des Moines) and would see Johnny often in the neighborhood. She said he was a nice young kid. His disappearance understandably broke his mother.

I'm from central Iowa and was about 8 years old then and had older siblings that did deliver papers at that time. Even though we lived in a town of 1,000 people, our lives greatly changed as suddenly my parents were getting up to drive them to deliver the Register and local TR in the morning. Things got really scary when the second boy disappeared. Suddenly, small town Iowa didn’t feel safe any more. And we were all paranoid of any slow driving vehicles, especially vans, that seemed to follow you as a kid, and everyone was hypersensitive to strange vehicles in your neighborhood. This lasted for years.
