Is it safe to upgrade the ram without disconnecting the battery?
@TekyTimboАй бұрын
It should be and that's precisely what I did in this video, however, of course I need to disclaim that you should do so at your own risk. Using Asus' official guidance, it does suggest discharging the battery down to 25% or below and disconnecting it: rog.asus.com/articles/guides/how-to-upgrade-the-ram-and-ssd-of-your-rog-zephyrus-g14-laptop/

For older Revisions of Fluke 289 supercap is used. But for Rev 016 and above they are already using rechargeable batteries. Mine is rev 018 its using a Seiko MS Lithium Rechargeable Battery ( MS621FE with tab ). Bought it 2018 date was still ok but time can no longer hold. Battery has only 0.6v, replaced it this 2024. here are the specs of MS621FE. Nominal voltage = 3v, Nominal capacity 5.5 mAh (3.1v - 2.0v).

I am a heavy photoshop user and need lots of ram. I have the 2022 G14 with 8+8 configuration and 2017 iMac with 128gb memeroy installed. I would like now to have some work done on the go and would really appreicate a 32gb purchase so i can get the max 40gb. From your video, you recommends 8+16 instead of 8+32 due to difference in quad vs dual channel. In my use case, that will still be the case or installing a 32gb making more sense. Thank you.
@TekyTimbo3 ай бұрын
In your specific case I'd recommend just getting the 32GB, there is simply no compensating for lack of memory and using paging files would have a far greater performance impact than running just dual channel with DDR5.

@@TekyTimbo Thank you. I actually did order the Crucial 32gb ram from Amazon and installed it this morning. My computer is very snappy now compared with before. it game a scare when the computer took longer to turn on after I installed the ram. Your video is very helpful BTW.

Very nice light!What is the red light for though?
@TekyTimbo4 ай бұрын
If you mean the Red LED variant, it's helpful to preserve night vision as Red is one of the wavelengths that's easiest on the eyes espeically when dark adapted. If you mean the Red LED on the button, it's to indicate that the battery is nearly or actually depleted and requires charging.
@UglyKidJoe714 ай бұрын
Thank you for your reply. Yeah I was asking about the red LED variant, so that is answered. That may be the way to go for me as I've never really had much need for UV in all my 53 years on this planet. Excellent torch 🔦 I will go for the midnight blue. For me it's mainly for hiking and the laser will be great for stargazing and some work presentations. It looks like a very well thought out product.
@TekyTimbo4 ай бұрын
One interesting way I found to use the UV light was to test sunglasses that are purportedly UV blocking; I'll cover that in my future full review of the light. But for your use case, I agree that Red would work great. Good luck with it and enjoy the light!

pocket clip is on the wrong side... the side mounted flood light is completely useless with the clip on the same side of the light. The only practical use for that side mounted flood is to clip the light to a shirt or bag or tent etc... with the flood going forward. Like the little Klarus E5 for example.

When i disable the USB charging, the laptop struggling to start, the booting time take almost one minutes. I ve heard some people try to fix booting issue by replacing CMOS battery, but booting issue remains, so they enable the USB charging option, but bad for battery.

Very good presentation and if I politely suggest that Nyogel 760G is a great lubricant that is safe with all O-rings just apply to your valuable flashlights to the treads and the inside of the contacts just a very small dab does the job every 4 months to protect your flashlights from corrosion and ease for sound functionality. Around $22 from Amazon but worth every dollar.

this laptop is such garbage. mine has literally NEVER lasted over 2 hours, not even just doing NOTHING. I even reapplied the thermal paste and fixed a bunch of issues that were not so great from factory. The thermal paste somewhat helped with it over heating, but it was over heating just trying to do a damn windows update. over 4-5 years I've almost always gone to my desktop and this blade became a paperweight. No joke I couldn't use it for even typing some notes or coding bc they decided to put a mini enter button? like what lmaooo. .they got so wrecked for it they changed it but all of us who bought one got screwed in so many ways. (i originally bought the same one linus had just before they went square and it looked like a black macbook..it was so bad I went back and forth with Razer for 6 months.) They sent me like 3 replacement laptops that ALL idled at like 100 degress C. .. by the time they finally sent me a "working" one they literally upgraded me to the "new" square model. They tried to convince me to downgrade from the highest 4k tier one bc they ran out lmao. I said no either sent me my broken one back then or a new one...they sent back a brand new one...At that point it still over heated but I was not trying to continue a 6 month warranty claim and 3 replacements...I found endless forums saying it's basically luck of the draw with Razer. You might get a good one you might not. Definitely avoiding them on my next purchase. i'd like to use my laptop lmao

they're kinda neat, but the built in battery turns all of those lights into disposable junk gadgets, that will die with the built in battery after 2-3 years at best.
@TekyTimbo7 ай бұрын
Sadly, that's how manufacturers are with most electronics but thankfully EU's new law re: replaceable batteries (albeit in smart phones and tablets) should help set a precedent in the right direction. As for these lights, I'm going to be doing a tear down to see how easily (or not) the battery can be displaced.
@TekyTimbo7 ай бұрын
EDIT: precedent isn't really correct since there were many battery-powered devices that previously had user-replaceable batteries, so I should say it's a step back in the right direction.

Sorry, I'm a bit confused with the scores? so is it worth upgrading to 8+16 GB RAM? I get that was the best result, but how much difference to the original 8+8?

It's a marginal difference but if your daily work flow demands > 16GB then it could make a significant difference vs. hitting your pagefile.

@raminzmicer9 ай бұрын
I understand that 9 years have passed, but still - if your MB-D16 is made of plastic, you do not have the original Nikon MB-D16, it's a copy. The original Nikon MB-D16 are made of magnesium alloy only. This is the main difference from third-party battery grips.

Also worth mentionning to NOT to cover the gold fingers under the card, thus creating an electrical path that should not be there which could potentialy cause damage to the card or device reading.

Hey. I have the R9+6800S and recently the MoB was changed by warranty and they sent it back with 16GB soldered and 8GB added (originally it was 8+8 but they couldn't find one with the same configuration). If I apply logic from you video the 16GB soldered will work quad and the 8GB dual?
@TekyTimbo11 ай бұрын
First off, that was a nice mobo swap, congrats! Now as to your q, individual DDR5 sticks are dual-channel by default (vs. single for DDR4). Now let’s draw an analogy and think of each RAM stick as a highway (hwy) with 2 lanes each. Then think of GB as representing the length of the hwy instead of capacity (I'll use miles but feel free to replace with kilometers). So you basically have 2 hwys with 4 lanes except that one is 16 miles long (which we’ll call Hwy 16) and the other 8 miles long (called Hwy 8). Let’s pretend that these hwys run parallel with each other and that they start at the same origin and are being filled with cars at the same rate. Basically you have 4 lanes for the first 8 miles but when the cars reach the end of Hwy 8, they’ll be diverted to Hwy 16 with 8 miles left to go but all cars now only have 2 lanes. Coming back to RAM sticks, the first 8GB of the soldered RAM will be “paired” with the 8GB stick to create 16GB of quad channels, the remainder 8GB of your soldered RAM will run in Dual channel as it’s not paired with anything. Now, this isn’t a perfect analogy because unlike Hwys, RAM (the “R” stands for Random) doesn’t fill up sequentially. The point is that the more RAM you have “paired” will create more opportunities for it to be used in quad channel and thus increase performance. So now when you upgrade that 8GB stick to 16GB, all 32GB will be able to run in quad. This is why for soldered RAM, it’s always desirable to have a higher amount since you can’t replace it.
