I love how a gizmo that's the size of a pocket operator (and looks like one) has more horsepower and sound capabilities than full sized grooveboxes at 6x-10x the cost of a pocket operator. And it runs off batteries for like 10+ hours. And syncs music over to your daw with frakkin' bluetooth. Oh and it samples. And has like 20+ synth engines. For $250. Looks like a toy. Makes many of the non toy devices like toys in comparison. Everyone is drooling over the Dirtywave M8 and this thing is just as powerful at a fraction of the cost.
@galactictapes5 ай бұрын
Yeah whenever I stop to think about I still find it crazy too... You can't even say "well I could do that on my phone" well maybe but the WB is half the size and half the weight of a phone hehe. On the comparaison with the M8 I would say it doesn't sound as pristine, but it was always intended as a lo-fi-ish device, and I find it so so much faster than the M8, or any other grooveboxes I've used for that matter. Also as an old guy with bad eye sight, the super clear segment display is a big plus.

@DarkTapes it’s a mix bag, I dislike the sequencer and project management. But the synth engines and fx sound great with a bunch of desiccated knobs
@DarkTapes5 ай бұрын
@@galactictapes that’s good to know. probably better with an external sequencer then. I was thinking it’d be cool with my Digitone and it’s 4 sequenceable midi tracks. It’s nice at least they have all of those knobs laid out.

This was a great jam! How are you finding the Polyend Tracker in the long run? I’m considering picking one up for some noodling though modular is my main way of making music.
@galactictapes7 ай бұрын
It’s still great imo. I’m mostly using the mini at the moment for form factor but I think it remains a solid sequencer and a decent sampler.
@turbotambourine7 ай бұрын
@@galactictapes amazing! Do you find you like the buttons better on the mini or do you miss the wheel and pads?
@galactictapes7 ай бұрын
@turbotambourine I actually prefer the pads BUT I like a regular keybed better than either. So I do most note entries with a controller, then I do the arranging and tweaking with the device on it’s own. I’m a big fan of portable devices.

Great jam! I'm always super impressed by the sound design capabilities of the Woovebox. Of all the little grooveboxes I own it's probably the one I've had most fun coming up with new patches on. I still find nothing quite beats the OP-Z for its immediacy, automation capabilities and composition workflows... and I secretly dream that one day Ivo might make a successor that blends the best of both worlds - OP-Z form factor and automation, with Woove's synth engine and freedom in instrument track assignment. Call it the "Woovy-Z"... Then again... maybe I should just try driving the Woove from the Z over midi... Anyway, that's enough rambling. Love your work :D
@woovebox7 ай бұрын
It's no secret I'm a big fan of the OP-Z, but the areas you mentioned - along with sound design - were precisely the ones I was less enamored with and sought to do differently on the Woovebox. As such, the Woovebox is doing precisely what I set out for it to do "better" in a form factor that worked "better". I of course, accept that what's "better" to some/me, may be worse for others. I guess this is a long winded way of saying that an OP-Z form factor, nor its take on automation is currently on the cards for a V2... Sorry about that! That said, I'm always open to compelling arguments for (or against) a particular feature or way of working.
@galactictapes7 ай бұрын
Thanks!! To me it was a complete OP-Z replacement. I’ve never made so much music hehe. I’m hoping for more automation capabilities in the future, but so far I’ve been getting along with the fadX functionality and shorter fragments.

Awesome music...thank you for that. Question please: You wrote in another thread: "Thanks so much. I actually ended up selling mine. I was getting too frustrated with the sequencer." - I can see that this sequencer is quite limiting. I would like to take a little synth/sequencer on vacation soon and I would like to ask if there is a portable synth/sequencer that has a more comprehensive sequencer. Thank you for any info that you have.
@galactictapes9 ай бұрын
Hey, sequencers are always a question of taste. In terms of small and portable, my favs are the op-z, even tho it's sound engines are dated, and the polyend tracker mini, but you need to be into the tracker workflow and accept that you don't have keys. I also really like the M8 but they are super hard to get a hold of nowadays. Those are my picks, but yeah it's so much dependent on how I like to do music. I have friends who swear by Roland sequencers.

Woah! Very recently I built an identical constellation of 2 PT and an MPC one. I would LOVE to pick your brain on the setup!! Cool song too! 😂 I even have the same lock and pick set, just noticed. This is straight up scary.
@galactictapes Жыл бұрын
I've really culled my synths down in the last few months. I'm down to one PT and sold the MPC One. if you have specific questions tho ask away :). If I remember right for this song the MPC One was only used for synths, all the sequencing was done on the right PT. The left PT was synced through midi, playing it's own tracks. It was definitely a fun combo. I could have resampled and done everything on one of the PT but I like the flexibility of not having everything resampled.
@jormun1337 Жыл бұрын
@@galactictapes Yea well.., I ended up selling my MPC too. It didn't jive well with the setup and the PT MPC combi just didn't make sense to be honest, not to me at least. The way I used the MPC could be done just as well and even better with an iPad. That is my current setup, 2x PT, an old iPad pro and a 4ch audio interface. It's actually quite awesome and pretty much all I need, and can very much recommend.

@@jormun1337 iPad soft synths are awesome... I have done some songs solely on the iPad, I don't post them on youtube as I doubt people would dig me filming an iPad hehe. But yeah I've done a few things with the PT and ipad too, just never completed anything. Definitely a cool setup!
