first of all, thank you so much for being so open about the not-so-glamorous side of college -- i definitely feel like it isn't talked about nearly enough, and i know that most college students can relate to situations like yours. and secondly, i know you've got this!! it's great that you're actively taking steps to make sure that your next semester goes better than your previous one. that shows that you're not dwelling on the past and you're trying to improve your future, as you should! i remember my first semester of college didn't go well at all, either. honestly, the first semester is always the hardest for most people. i had so much anxiety due to all the new changes in my life, and i was also in an extremely rigorous academic program at the time, so i ended up doing poorly in multiple classes. watching other people's planning videos and switching up my planning/organization definitely helped me do better in future semesters, and i hope it helps you too! and seasonal depression is SO real, i have the same workload during cold months and warmer months and i always find myself feeling so much happier during the warmer months 🤷🏾‍♀️ you're definitely not alone in any of this, and i'm rooting for you!! 🫶

thank you so much for watching, i'm glad they're helpful!! i actually switched my major from cs to ux design at the end of my sophomore year, but I still have a minor in cs so I can definitely talk about a lot of core cs classes. at my university, I think the major has some calc prerequisites, linear algebra, and 2 discrete math courses involved. i was able to use ap credit to fulfill the calc prerequisites but i heard that calc at umich is really hard. i did end up taking the first discrete math course for the minor and it was one of the hardest classes I've ever taken. the good thing, though, is that there's definitely more programming courses than math courses involved. for the minor, discrete math was the only math course required (aside from the pre reqs) and my other 4 cs courses were all programming courses. i believe there's a similar ratio of math to programming courses for the major, too. i did not end up enjoying my cs classes (which is why I changed my major) because I just wasn't a good fit for cs or a career as a software dev. a lot of people struggle in these classes but the reason why most people stick with it is because the post-grad opportunities make the journey worth it. i would say it's worth it if you can actually see yourself as a software dev or something similar in the future!

Every YT video about CS doesn’t go over anything about the major and classes that are generally involved, just about the career opportunities. I have always really hated math, and I’m not terrible at it, but I’m not great either. Everything about CS looks amazing to me, and I could totally see myself being a software dev. My mindset is probably just going to be “get through these math classes in college and then I’ll be in an awesome career I love.” At the end of the day, I’m a rising Junior and still have lots of time to decide, but this info will definitely help me to make an informed decision. Thanks again for your time and detail replying!
