I installed windows on mine, bought egpu with additional SSD storage, and added thermal ads to a back lid. Temps are not higher than 75 under load.

I have one since the $2400 price tag in 2020. It gets the job done but I regret buying it. I don’t recommend it to anyone, just get an Apple Silicone Mac.

writing from italy, bought a m1 pro 8 core 14inch , 16 512 last april, rn im studying computer engineering , i find the machine still really relevant to this date , the hardware is top notch and the battery life too . Im a little keen on doing software updates due to possible software slowdowns. Still , i feel like this machine has plenty more horsepower than what i currently need .

I'm sticking out with this thing until it dies, and i don't think that will be any time soon. I wouldn't be surprised if It lasts me another 5 - 10 years. The step up from intel was so monumental, unless they're able to make another leap like that, I really don't see the point.

I have the 16 inch macbook pro with a 1tb ssd and 16gb ram I got refurbished for around 1500 around a year and a half ago. My only regret is not going with the 14 inch. 16 is essentially a deskrop replacement and im lugging this thing around everywhere. Otherwise I love it. Even runs (reasonable) games pretty well.

I'm not too sure how apple is going to handle support for these Apple Silicon Mac's, we could potentially see Mac's supported for much longer due to that fact. I personally don't see too much of a problem in the next 5 years; Even when Apple drops support for these Mac's, they will still be plenty powerful at the least.

My base M1 Pro 14 has been amazing. Still blown away by the battery life and performance based on my needs. It’s a joy to use and I can’t see myself upgrading until: - the notch is gone - facial recognition is standard - battery life is above 24 hours. For 98% of users this machine is more than enough.

Hahahaha got the same. M1 pro 14" 16gb ram and 1 tb ssd but for 800 euros (in Europe). Absolutely amazing laptop gets all of the things done, RAM management is insane (lots of chrome tabs open on different chrome profiles and still slice through). The only downside has to be a battery since it's used battery is on 84% max capacity (holds up like 4-7 hours depending on usage)

I think this Macbook was what made Apple realize that it was time to drop intel.
@RealBlazeTech
@RealBlazeTech 22 күн бұрын
I believe so, because apple had been developing apple silicon for years at this point. And this MacBook along with that whole generation of Macs from around that time period set them over the edge, because it wasn’t just this Mac in particular that was having CPU issues.

100% a good buy for someone who is doing office productivity/light video editing. I used one of these for 5 years with very few issues (software issues from updates). It was fine for Photoshop if you are working with moderate files sizes...retouching 100MB medium format files with many layers became a grind at times.

Also, to anyone interested, another big problem with headless MBP's is that transporting them is problematic as without the screen as a protector, the Mac responds to every inadvertent touch to the trackpad, the keyboard, and the touchbar, constantly waking the machine and responding in ways you will want very much to avoid. I have not found a solution to this problem other than building a case for transporting my headless Mac that rests only on the edges of the top of the MBP. Anyone found a software or settings solution to this problem?
@RealBlazeTech
@RealBlazeTech Ай бұрын
your method of building a case for transport sounds like it works well. Although, i believe there is a software someone created a while back that turns off the response of the keyboard while cleaning it, that could work in this case.

if you have protector on the back part of your MacBook you can just attach it to the front to the key board

What MBP model are you working with? I've a headless 2019 16" MBP. However, its keyboard backlight and backlight settings panel do not work. It appears that they are dependent on an ambient light sensor built into the camera cluster on the screen (which no longer exists). Is your ambient sensor in that bar you taped to the hinge bay?
@RealBlazeTech
@RealBlazeTech Ай бұрын
The model I used in this video was a 2015 15" MBP. Now that you mention it, I think I also lost the keyboard backlight functionality unfortunately. So it must be built into the ambient light sensor.

"Computer-in-a-keyboard" is not as crazy as it sounds. I recall my first computer, the C64 in the early to mid-80ies was just like this. Btw. an easier way to do practically the same thing without having to tinker with the inner things of the computer like in this excellent video, would be simply to close the lid on the computer and buy an external USB-keyboard for it, perhaps a wireless one, and simply put the laptop under the external display you're using instead. Ofcourse that low-tech approach to the problem is not as cool and hands-on, but if you aren't very used to working with electronics and stuff and wants the fastest way to achieve a pretty similar result, that might be the way to go. Btw. using a docking station is a great way to get more USB-ports and such and could also be used in combination. But kudos to the guy in this amazingly good video! ... Btw, I got here from a reference in the comment section (forum) of this great article on the old home computer scene in the 80ies just around the micro crash: www.theregister.com/2024/12/28/christmas_1984_home_computers/
