This is amazing... From Australia :) would you have a video that can show this pre start meetings and see the trade partners interacting with each other and actually writing on the board and see how this is actually done on a daily basis? thank you

done it with 3 custom home builders across three different states, if you are building anything, producing anything, constructing anything.... it works. Its all based on production principles.

Does this thing " takt planning " has theoretical background or is it thought in schools

Spencer in studying the difference with Takt Planning vs. CPM you achieve both in P6. Its not the software its the methodology. Using WBS, Activity Codes, Grouping, Sorting, Filtering, Crew Logic you can represent the Data in the same modeled format as Takt specific Software. With CPM you always still have to consider QTYs and Areas. Takt Planning seems to assume you can just smooth all the durations for work packages to be the same and also assumes the Work areas the same. This is never the case, or extremely rare hence the Opportunity Gaps between the work Packages created by Activity in each package with the longest duration, this can be realized and managed in P6 just the same. It seems that Takt planning is a fancy term for a portion of the Schedule Development process that has always been a part of CPM scheduling. It is called work Breakdown Structure and in proper application it is not only Systems based but also Location based derived from Programmatic Data generating during Estimating QTO. Activity codes can be used to group work packages and arrange the Gantt to show the trade flow and work flow. Its all in the formatting and methodology not so much at all the Software.

CPM does not equal P6 and all of the strategies to try and show the data that you pointed out I have used for years, I disagree with you on one major point, that there is an assumption on being able to level the work, I agree the standard way of building a WBS is not typically looked at close enough to level the work properly, there is some great work out of P2SL (a research lab out of UC Berkley) where a term work density has been studied extensively, I highly suggest you check it out, if you need help finding it please message me. AS far as the rest of the claims of being able to show the same thing a takt plan can, I totally agree as that is where I started, but I no longer think CPM is helping anyone but lawyers.... and unless you are a lawyer... I bet the amount of time you spend in a schedule is more than a typical takt plan as the information is much more user friendly and doesn't need as much management as a typical CPM schedule would (notice I don't say P6). As a backup check out the empire state building..... they didn't use CPM as it wasn't invented yet and all the production principles they used for that project is what Takt Planning is.... Thanks for the comment.

CPM is a theoretical best path. There is no improvement or alternative that invalidates it
@SpencerEastonChannel2 жыл бұрын
A theory that is not holding in the construction industry, if only 30% of projects finish on time, also the math itself that a handful of folks from DuPont invented in 1959 all that came from that was the backwards pass and the calculation of float, and even in the original writing on CPM they admit that it is not a practical schedule, because of lack of addressing resources and potential issues. Which some try and mitigate but overall in my particular industry it has done nothing to help us. Jake you might really see more of my thoughts on this in my other video: 4 Levels of Flow - CPM IS DEAD kzbin.info/www/bejne/roXIpWCgicaqgNk
@jakeharrell82852 жыл бұрын
@@SpencerEastonChannel I agree with everything you say here. But cpm is a theory, it will never be dead. If you are suggesting looking at a certain way cpm is displayed, I would agree improvements are welcome and needed
@jakeharrell82852 жыл бұрын
The video is actually really well made, and you present well. However your argument isn't for a better methodology, it's simply a better way to summarize it for people. I agree this way is better
@SpencerEastonChannel2 жыл бұрын
@@jakeharrell8285 Yes, If I ruled the world (which thank God I dont), I would prefer Takt in the realm of construction, what I call takt actually is the Construction Takt Planning and Control out of Germany, But Really my whole reason for my video in the first place is to lay down some solid examples of how to get better and flow, in hopes that one day nothing is boiler plate and or mandatory. Right now most of the construction world is mandated to use CPM. and I would really just love it if one day we can choose what ever we want, not mandate a new standard but get to the point of each individual project could use what ever method or system they want, as long as the owner/ customer is fine with the approach. This is my ultimate goal. I do have a whole class around Takt and how it applies in construction and where to start which I know might not be for you but for anyone reading this that is interested.
