I use the card inners from bolts begged from the shops, cut them in half widthways and fold the fabric round them. I also recently went through my stash which was around fat quarter size. Cut scraps into 3” and 4” squares, and 2 1/2” strips which were then rolled. Anything that was nearer a fat quarter, I re folded and that’s now stored upright, rather lying flat, in narrow boxes 4” x 12” as in the shops. I even sorted them into sets like Christmas, children’s, prints for broderie perse, etc. I was amazed how much fabric I had forgotten. A great job for a winters day.

What an amazing set of tutorials. When I first saw this pattern in want sure if it would be too advanced for me but after watching this I realise I can absolutely do it 🙌 Off to order the pattern 😊

I didn’t know you could sew buttons on with the buttonhole foot! I will be doing that!
@SB_McCollum16 күн бұрын
That actually is a new way to fold, enclosing the board instead of using it like a bolt. Kudos.

This is by far the most ambitious sewing project I'm about to try, and my first True Bias pattern. I am so grateful for the sew along videos! I struggle so much in translating written sewing instructions into the 3 dimensional world of sewing. Thank you so much for these! I got some pink & red lightweight cotton canvas from IKEA and am so excited to see how they come out :)

Youve got this! and the pink and red canvas sounds so cute!

glue sticks! such a good idea. I am making a Brynn dress and I think it's a good idea to use method #3 for this (imagine the gap opening between the upper legs 😬) but would it make it hard to take on and off?

Fabric exposed on an open shelf can be damaged by the sun. We often receive sun faded fabric as donation at the creative reuse organization I work at. So if you love it and want to use it to make something special, keep it out of the sun.

Hi. Thanks for these tutorials. I'm wondering....do you choose to make this without serging, or did you just do that for simplicity for the video (and because knits don't fray)?
@truebiasАй бұрын
I sometimes make it with a serger and sometimes without. It's easier to show the tutorial on the regular sewing machine plus I know that lots of home sewists dont have a serger so that is why I chose this for the tutorial. Either way works though.

Great video. I do have one tip for you, if you use the fusible seam tape, leave the paper in place after you attach it. Use it as your guide to fold the seam to make a memory seam. Then remove and press. Much easier. I have one question , do you have separate patterns for sleeve vs sleeveless, or two different pattern cut lines? I find if you put a sleeve into a sleeveless version. The back seam doesn't fit correctly.
@truebias2 ай бұрын
that is a great tip. the sleeve and sleeveless patterns are different pattern pieces.

Great visuals on this compact and neat presentation. Thank you. I do quilt and sew garments which leads to a very large stash! I use the comic book storage method for my batik fabrics and store them in bids that fit that size. My q.cottons are folded to 6” wide 12” deep to fit my wire shelving (not a good choice I’ve discovered). The folding systems in both methods works well and I think yours will be great for my garment fabric.

I’ve never, not once, not ever been able to stitch in the ditch and neatly catch the fabric behind. This is definitely and sew-by-hand step for me.

I love how the pockets on these go up to the waist. No worries about perfectly matching the pockets: it’s designed to match them up.

I'm wondering why sometimes you treat the edges with a stay stitch and sometimes you serge/zigzag. I'm new enough to sewing that I can't tell when you've done one over the other. I think understand the reason for stay-stitching, and the reason for serging/zig-zag. But I don't know why you chose one and not the other. Thanks!!
@truebias6 ай бұрын
Hi. Thats a great question. So whenever we are staystitching it is to keep the fabric from stretching out during construction and before it is sewn to another another piece of fabric in a later step. So for instance, the top of the main bodice is staystitched so it doesn't get stretched out, but it doesn't need to be surged because those edges will be completely covered by the full lined bodice. The serging or zigzag stitching is to keep a raw edge from unraveling later. Sometimes we do this before sewing to another piece of fabric and sometimes after - depending on how the construction is coming together and when we will have access to those seams. Does this make sense?

I love your sew alongs! Thank you! What stretch stitch are you using to attach the neck band? Would you recommend Lightning bolt, triple stretch stitch or zig zag?
@truebias10 ай бұрын
Thanks so much! I like an elongated zigzag or lighting bolt stitch. I like it to look as much like a straight stitch as possible so usually something like 0.5mm in width and around 3 mm in length.
