Can you please discuss the top 3 things that helped you manage having a child in residency? Is it possible for someone who does not have family support?

You are inspiring! I’ve always dreamed of being a doctor but I have been pursuing the nursing field just because I didn’t think I could be a single mom and a medical student…

Hi there… nice video. Have you ever shared details on how you are able to work nights…with family obligations? Also, have you shared why you chose Physician over Physician Assistant? Thanks again for your videos🙂

Great questions: I don’t think I’ve ever mentioned on here why I chose MD over other medical fields but I can definitely talk about it! Generally my family helps when I have overnight obligations, which has been a big help

Too late. I have a second bachelors. And i wanted to take some premed stuff this semester coming so i could at least get started, but my current program doesnt see it as feasible

There are many other benefits to doing a post bacc. My program has linkages with med schools through which I was accepted. You’d have to weigh more than just the cost. Your chances of med school acceptance through a post bacc linkage is way higher than a DIY that you pieced together. Med school is hard to get into and some post baccs not only boost your GPA but also prepare you to take the MCAT. A lot to consider
@dREAMwShan
@dREAMwShan Жыл бұрын
Very true, I’m sure many students have found benefits from a post bacc, this video is to highlight the funding limitations of a post bacc vs other premed options. I talk about linkages programs in another video, in my pre-med series. The title/ thumbnail is specifically related to suggestions on saying money, I don’t address any other aspect on post bacc (classes , pre-health school prep, MCAT prep, matriculation into health professional school from a post bacc)

How you already in residency when only a yr or 2 ago you was posting videos of masters program? Isn’t the program two yrs then at least 4yrs of med school
@dREAMwShan
@dREAMwShan Жыл бұрын
Hey, you may be new to my channel, but I started posted videos during medical school and I am currently a PGY2 resident, I did a master program and a post bacc several years before starting medical school (i have a video that talks about my non-traditional path through medicine) and videos i posted about post bacc/master programs- are apart of my pre-med series and are retrospective advice videos, not filmed when i was actually enrolled as i wasnt on youtube then- the title of each video also shows either Mom in Med School or Mom in Residency indicating the time along my journey i actually recorded/uploaded the video, and masters programs can be 1or more yrs long, the length depends on the program/institution.

I have a question: when you apply as a second degree seeking student, will they make you take extra courses to get that “second degree,” that you wouldn’t otherwise have to take if you enrolled as a Non degree seeking student picking required pre-med school classes?
@dREAMwShan
@dREAMwShan 9 ай бұрын
Hi. Good question in general the answer should be no- for the most part class registration is the same for non-degree seeking and 2nd degree, but they key is communicating with the registrar/professor, especially for classes that require a pre-requisite class. Example you only Need Orgo 2 but the pre-reqs were that you have taken pass Gen Cham 1, 2 and Orgo 1. Of course you would have taken these classes already and have them documented on your transcript, communicating this to the registrar using lets by pass any hold preventing you from joining Orgo.

@dREAMwShan

My youngest has been enrolled in daycare since 9months old, so during most of my shifts she’s in school (8-10hr s) and went to aftercare which was very helpful for rotations that required more hrs/work

Hello! So glad I found your channel! Question please, did you apply for schools close to home? I find myself being limited on Med schools I can apply to so that I can stay near family for help with children
@dREAMwShan
@dREAMwShan Жыл бұрын
For medical School I apply to schools in my state as well as schools in surrounding states that I felt like would be a reasonable distance away from my family, before changing plans I was actually heading 5hrs away for med school. Sometimes our only option may be going to school away from your family so you just have to weigh the pros and cons and try to figure out if the place that you’re going to be will have a system for you
