Is there cool video how to get a nice Stax guitar tone? For example I love how the guitar sounds like on "These arms of mine". Or the guitar on Try a little tenderness, also awesome

I’m a little bit confused about the part 3. I understand everything you say, but does it mean that if I’m in the key of A minor, and I want to play the triads of the G major scale, I need to remember all the notes of the G major scale, then be able to map all the triads of every chords of this scale in every positions ? And then create licks with them ? While I’m playing ? Or do I need to build vocabulary and remember the shapes ? I don’t know how to start 😢 Thank you !

Hi Stuart, I've been with Brian at Active Melody for 6 years and I was doing ep 325 and I saw your video after. I love this kinda music and even the falsetto Gospel singing like Al Green. So you must be new to you tube or I just never noticed your site. Let's play.

I think what this video illustrates the most is that you can still play to the strengths of the instrument tonally while being able to play whatever style your heart desires. You’re only limited by your own creativity. An instrument’s “versatility” is in your hands, not the number of pickups, switches or knobs.

14:27 love this and mine does the same sound with much simpler playing. It really encourages finger picking. Oh, through a Fender Chorus and Champ.

I just ordered a “Mascis” yesterday… not the same pickups, nowhere near the same price, but what a stellar demo! Cheers!

Great video, man! Thanks so much. In terms of gear, thick strings and picks are recommended when you wanna go surfing.

Jimi Hendrix used to play one with Little Richards band in 1965 no idea why he switched to the Strat ? He literally downgraded lol as a Jazzmaster is a premium guitar , the Stratocaster is a workhorse guitar , only reason i can think of is the cutaway on the Strat is more pronounced so easier for Hendrix though saying that ive even seen a photo of Jimi playing a Gibson Les Paul upside down and no idea how he even played solos on that.

I wonder that myself. Perhaps the bridge wasn't stable enough as he developed a more aggressive style? Seems nobody really knows why he stopped playing a JM!

The instrument sounds great in your hands. But for me, it does not possess the sounds I associate with Country or with Classic Rock music.

I like this, but look at how your fingering changes between the quick version and the slow (particularly on the first 2 chords).

Are the pots the same values? The new one sounds brighter and more jangly like it is running one meg pots or perhaps 500K. The older model sounds duller like it is running 250K pots.
Great playing. Love your guitar. I have a 55 Esquire that is in a lot rougher shape than yours, but she is still a beauty to me!

Hi Stuart. You were a tutor at my college back in 2003. I remember you playing the main riff from daytripper with the vocal melody on top of it. Any chance you could do a video on how to play it?

The only thing I don't like is that I play with correct placement- guitar resting on left leg. 99.9% of guitar players get it wrong and play on the wrong leg, the right. This is ergonomically incorrect as you're not paying over your center of gravity. Leo designed this guitar to be ergonimcally "correct" for ergonomically incorrect positioning. Just doesn't work on the left leg. Only if you're doing it wrong to start with.

The original composition seemed more at home on this guitar. That was a great demonstration though. I’m intrigued with crisp, low end. Thank you.
