My clips are smooth heads
@jaykay1810 сағат бұрын
Toyota uses different clips, from whatever supplier can get them to them fast enough and cheap enough. The lowest bidder prevails. This style with the Philips head is what was used on this particular car. For smooth heads, if there is a "ring" or "button" in the center, try pressing on that or prying it up with a flat blade screwdriver. If not, then get behind them and pry them out with the flat blade. If you break them, no problem, they are sold in a kit of many different styles and sizes online for very cheap. This isn't rocket surgery, this shouldn't hold you back.

*AS I EXPLAINED IN THE VIDEO,* there is a coil behind the start/stop button and one inside the keyfob. It works like a wireless cell phone charger. That sends power to the keyfob. Now that the keyfob has power, the car can detect it.

This one is kind of a mixed bag, anybody's game. The power supply that was in this was actually manufactured by AcBel, Dell and HP used to buy their supplies from them a lot. Remember, it's all about the lowest bidder. According to Wikipedia, capacitor plague ran through 2007. This machine was manufactured in 2009. I got it in 2011 and it still worked. Could it be that Wikipedia is wrong? I think so, because I have proof of many machines that have failed caps, and I don't think 2007 is a good cutoff date because I was seeing blown caps well into 2012 or 2013 easily. Typically these would have failed long ago. Could it be that this was in the range Wikipedia stated and sat around for years? Maybe AcBel had a huge stockpile of "fraudulent" capacitors they bought up in bulk while they were dirt cheap, and kept using them. Perhaps, despite the power-on hours of this machine being at maximum 20,000 hours, it was simply an early failure? Or the supply isn't really cracked up to be what it's made out to be--in that they often fail in these small form factor machines. I don't know for sure, but typically a power supply has a MTBF of at least 100,000 hours There could be a million reasons why this failed. But the fact that SO MANY of them failed, especially during an extended period of non-use, tends to indicate to me these are capacitor plague caps.

Try a different socket from a different socket set. That might hold the bolt better. You can also try an impact gun, that usually will break it free if it's that rusted. Don't worry about damaging the bolt, replacements are still sold and available on appliance parts websites. @@240Volts I have an old HP laser printer that for some reason had limited support for Windows Vista and 7. There was a way to make it work through networking it through an XP system using a different driver and it was convoluted, but eventually they did release a driver for it. There also was an old Canon printer back in the day, an inkjet, and that printer did not work with Windows XP. No driver ever released, if you had one, too bad, it's junk. I had one of those somebody gave me. Gave it to a friend, he got rid of it when he got XP. Kind of wish I still had it or knew the model number at least, it had an interesting design unlike the rest. I will run 7 for as long as absolutely possible to still get stuff done online. Then I will have to move on. I still need Windows support for my video editing program, so I will always be stuck with that. @@240Volts Windows can be a bit fickle about sharing drives and peripherals. Back when I had my print server up and running, it ran Windows XP. Any other machines I had were running XP also and man, everything jived and talked to eat other so nice. There I was with my Acer Netbook, running an 8-bit DOS program, and with the NET USE command I could send the data that normally would be sent to LPT1 out over the network, wirelessly, to a waiting network printer I specified. What was even more impressive was that it was a Netbook so it had no semblance of what an LPT port was since it didn't have one. (Actually, I think it did know what it was, but the data just went into the bit bucket because the connections dead-ended in the chip.) When they got rid of the KZbin Video Editor, I had auditioned maybe 5 or 6 different video editing programs. Openshot was one of them, but it just didn't quite do it for me. I am very happy with my decision, and have gotten quite proficient at using my editor. I so not want to learn a new program, nor even upgrade from this version because I know it so well and where everything is and how it works. No, it's not very advanced. No, it's not perfect, it certainly has its bugs. But it does it's job, I'll say a good 97% of the time.

AH! the Brick.... it was a DCS Motorola KDT800 terminal. DCS as Data Communication System. Uncle worked for IBM here in the Southbury, Connecticut facility.
@jaykay186 күн бұрын
YES! That brick was awesome. I forget how much of it I mentioned in the video but I remember that it had 22KB of memory, 11 of which was free if I recall. I don't remember much else about what it did because my father used it for work, but in order to transmit you had to hit Shift RF-ON, Shift RF-ON for it to go. I remember the sounds it made. And, in the event the radio towers were down for some reason, it had a build in modem and there was a small cable that broke out from the connector under the rubber cover on the left side to a modular RJ11 plug. I know you could initiate dialing somehow and hear a relay inside pulse-dial. I guess back in 1983 when these came out that was the safest bet, since Ma Bell used to charge extra for touch tone service (we never had it growing up), so whatever phone line it was connected to, it was guaranteed to work. There was allegedly supposed to be a printer that would have connected with the terminal but that never surfaced. My best guess is it would communicate over the common RS-232 serial connection, 9600-8-N-1, so it could be connected to any serial printer set that way. There is a long-lost VHS tape some guys made after hours about the capabilities of the terminal. You heard the sound it made and I remember the guy saying "That's a familiar sound". Anyway I think they made it play little ditties (likely just dubbed on to the tape), and then at the end there was the "teleportation" feature, guy transmits, bright flash of an explosion, and now you see the same picture of the swivel chair still spinning and the guy is gone. In the late 90s they switched over to RIM devices, the BlackBerry. The techs also had laptops, IBM ThinkPads of course. There was no USB, and they needed lots of storage, so the solution was the MicroSolutions BackPack parallel port CD-ROM drive. I have the very ThinkPad my dad used, they offered it for sale to the employees when they upgraded them to new systems. I have the original BackPack drive too, the drive died but it's a standard IDE interface inside. I also picked another one of those up at a thrift store, without a power supply. Those laptops ran some software that I cannot remember the name of. Internet connection was via dial-up, and probably weekly, the databases needed to be "replicated", which took a good 20-30 minutes. Personally, I think a lot of that was latency rather than data transfer, but that's simple speculation. Downloading a ZIP file for example, and then having that deploy offline would have been a much better solution, would keep connection time short, with post-processing required. Before the brick, the IBM techs carried around Motorola Pageboy pagers. My dad tells me it was like the announcements on a subway car, very muffled and incoherent. You had to find the nearest payphone, call dispatch, and find out what the call was about. The brick saved tons of manpower and time. At some customer locations, they had a small IBM office or room or area, often set up with an IBM 3270 terminal so they could get access to their main system. I am completely drawing a blank as to what terminals were used in the IBM office buildings, nor can I remember the name of the software they used. As soon as I hear it, I will remember distinctly. I cut my teeth on an IBM PCjr. My father told me never to work for IBM, so I didn't. But it got me into computers nonetheless, and I was a service technician just like dad. One of the best in the business, and I'm not just saying that myself, I have certifications and awards to prove it.

I'll probably just buy the next step up model which is an actual cen-tech branded 9 function model for $15.

Even when adjusted on the old ones, this is still about the cheapest meter money can buy, at least retail. You can probably get them for half that price on something like AliExpress. Regardless, still a great meter for voltage or no voltage, when the reading doesn't exactly matter much but just has to be in the ball park. Same with resistance, when you're looking for continuity or no continuity. 40 bucks will buy you a really nice meter on Amazon that's still pretty cheap, but ups the functionality. I have one about that price, it's got the backlight, a flashlight, and even a temperature probe. Meter leads are much nicer as well.
