Definitely worth a comment here - I recently made a bunch of homemade salsa with stuff from around the garden and had some ice cream cones sitting around from the summer, so I tried a salsa cone. Consider my pard begged, it was actually pretty great! I couldn’t get anyone else to try it, but I’m definitely a fan.

I have the black model. Does anyone else notice the AC adapter getting really HOT when the unit is on speed three and four?
@jaykay18Күн бұрын
I'd say that's par for the course with stuff today. When running at the higher speeds it's pulling the most amperage. The AC adapter is guaranteed to be the cheapest one they could get their hands on. I would contact them and see if they can replace it for you if it's still under warranty, but I wouldn't be surprised to learn the replacement does the same.

Nice to get that checked off the list! I remember replacing all the belts in the '81 Chevy back in the 90's. After engine replacement, I went with the GM Performance serpentine kit based off a 1992 Camaro, and have a file with all those non-factee part numbers. That serpentine belt has been replaced once. A piece of cake compared to the original three belt setup found on the 305 V8. Gramps has a real nice pry bar for V belt setup. I remember him teaching me how to replace those belts way back when. I'd say he would've been 65-66 years old at the time. What are you planning to fix next on the Bluick? I took the '81 out today, and it was a fine _and_ dandy experience!
@jaykay182 күн бұрын
Great that you have a file with all of those new part numbers. Don't have to look up anything or look at an old, shredded belt. My old Chevy had 3 belts. One for alternator, one for power steering, one for smog pump. Remember those? At one point the smog pump started making noise. It got louder and louder but took it several months. At the time, my dad was still working, and I was in college. We'd leave the house at the exact same time, and both of our cars were parked in front of the house. Well the old Chevy wouldn't start. Rather, it would start, but die immediately. Normally, one would think of a bad ignition switch or ballast resistor. I decided to do one more test, so I started it again but kept my foot on the gas. She ran with a very squeally belt. I left off and it died. My father got out of his car and watched me go to my trunk, pull out a pair of diagonal cutters and cut the belt off the smog pump. Then of course the car started and ran fine. Much quieter, too! I used to dislike serpentine belts and preferred the old V-belts. That way if a belt broke, you wouldn't lose everything. THE BIG SIX has a serpentine, and if that breaks I'd lose everything including the water pump. That's an immediate shutdown. But the serpentines automatically tension, which is really nice. In fact, one time many years ago, xjoe81x was over at my parents' house when I still lived there. He had his '89 Olds Cutlass Ciera. That would put this around 99 or 2000 I think. Decided to change the serpentine belt. Somehow, we got the belt off. GM put a square hole in the tensioning arm for a 3/8" wrench (I believe). You just put a wrench in there and shove it back until the belt slips on, and it's good to go. Neither Joe nor I were strong enough to move that. He called his dad who came by and was immediately able to move it no problem. There are no immediate plans for me to fix anything on it. There's some place out east from here Joe told me about that looks like they got the right kind of guys to fix it. The kind of guys who will let me talk to them and take the time to listen. The kind of guys that this is the only kine they work on. The kind of guys that will charge as such. Originally, I had planned to bring the car to them about 3 years ago. For whatever reason, that never happened. Planned to bring it to them the following year, then the wif had the accident. Between all of that, and everything else, plus the very grim state of the economy, it never happened. Will it happen in coming year? I don't know. But a certain xjoe81x will be around a lot more. One thing that really bothers me is the turn signal switch broke, again. Joe and I replaced that a number of years ago. Between getting the wrong switch first, then learning that there were two different brands that they used (AC Delco or Boyne), I got the right one. (They did the same with the master cylinder, Bendix or Delco Moraine). But it so turns out that Sal's roadside repairs were under the dash at one point as well, and the wires were incorrectly spliced, so I had to cut the connectors off some of the pins on this switch and solder them directly. If I can figure out what switch I bought, and can contact the same seller again, and have them de-pin it for me, it can be replaced again. I'd love to see if it's more of Sal's roadside repairs as to why the radio and the cigarette lighter plug are dead. But I think the car ought to go to those guys so it can run properly first.

@jaykay182 күн бұрын
You're going to learn more here right now than you've ever learned before. I can only make parallels here. Think of power tools. Many people will not the big names out there, Dewalt, Milwaukee, Makita, stuff like that. Well, turns out there are many "no name" companies out there that make the same tools. What do you do if your tool requires service? Buy a new one. And it's worth it. The reason is because those big names are only big names because they charge big prices. They advertise. That makes their operating costs higher and therefore their prices higher. You're also going to get parts lists so you can buy overpriced replacement parts. But this no name tool does the same job, performs at least as well, and a lot of times even better, and was less than half the cost. Same thing in the grocery store, with almost everything you buy. The store brand is much cheaper. Often times it's as good and even more often, even better than the name brand, but at a much lower price. In today's society and economy, the name brands on stuff out there are charging absolutely astronomical amounts. So, in exchange for a brand you are unfamiliar with, you'll get a vacuum that will work well and probably hold up. Finding parts, if the company is still around and the vacuum is under warranty, they will either furnish the replacement part to you at no cost, or, even more commonly, will furnish an entire new vacuum to you at no cost. That's way better than any national US brand will do.

Wikipedia says that your iFeel mouse came out in 2000 and their first optical mouse was 2000. Apple released the Hockey Puck mouse in 1998 that used a black and white ball.
@jaykay182 күн бұрын
Yes, it sure was. Could have gone for as much as 79 or even 99 dollars back then. Remember that it was also optical, and that was in the early days of optical mice. As for the hockey puck mouse, that was one of the worst contraptions ever created. At least it was USB so you could swap it out easily for something else, if it weren't for the fact that you'd be completely broke after buying a Mac to begin with.
@pyeltd.54572 күн бұрын
To speed it up use an SSD drive and you won't get this failure being it's solid state and not rusty mechanical machinery.
@jaykay182 күн бұрын
SSDs can fail on their own, in their own ways. Even if I put an SSD into this machine, chances are something else will fail on it. It doesn't need to go any faster; once it's booted, it's booted, and barely uses the hard drive after that.

They call me an old soul. Grew up with my Dad’s ‘66 mustang. Learned to drive stick in it. Through college, I maintained and drove my Granddad’s ‘75 Stingray and learned to fly on a ‘76 Grumman Cheetah, and then a ‘66 C150, sadly it didn’t have the manual “barn door lever” for the flaps. I got into motorcycles after working on the corvette, bought and restored a Honda ‘75 CB360T before I learned to ride it. Took two years. I sold it, and bought a CB750K6, restored that also. I now own the Stingray and the CB750, and also now have an SV650Y Naked, and matching year CB550F1 to go with the 750. Trying to trade a few bikes for an RD350 or 400. I’m 28, about to get out of the Marines, and glad I was raised right. Nothing beats cars from the 60’s, and bikes from the 70’s, just so much personality. I’ll also always prefer carburetors.

Great vid! Do you have an recommendation for a external ssd for phone and a pc?
@jaykay183 күн бұрын
Not one in particular, except that it's probably going to need a USB-C connector. I really don't know if there's any good or bad brands of SSD drives. Samsung makes some, those are probably pretty good, but you also will probably pay a premium for it, because Samsung. Being that this is an external drive and not going to be used for really heavy data transfer (as in, installed in a PC running an OS), probably a cheap drive is fine. They probably also have those M.2 type drives with enclosures that have USB-C now, that would be physically smaller. I'm out of touch with the new stuff, I'm the old hardware man. Who else uses, and then services, a 26-year-old mouse?

@jaykay18 It kind of feels like 2016 except trump won by a landslide. Am curious how the next 4 years will pan out. I agree with most you say except the health care. But maybe cos I'm from the UK, so used to our NHS
@jaykay186 күн бұрын
@@declanmarsh7398 Healthcare has always been an issue. It will continue to be. If the other one got in, we'd be giving away the farm, which happened back when Obama was president. I think everyone should be entitled to some form of health care, if we don't have our health, we have nothing at all. Only those who can't meet minimum income requirements should get it, but allow others to opt in. If I were president, I'd make a sliding scale, if you make this much, you get it for this rate, if you make that much, you get it for that rate. In New York, it's mandatory for jobs to offer health care for employees that work full time. You don't have to take it, but it's mandatory that it's offered. Health care is a touchy issue. Doctors are miracle workers in many cases. They deserve the pay they get. And that's the thing, a lot of people will complain saying their car needed work and it cost a fortune. I say "If you think car repair is expensive, try people repair". When my gallbladder was failing, the wif, a nurse, diagnosed me just based on her training. She can't give a formal diagnosis but she was pretty sure it was my gallbladder, and took me to the hospital. She was right. I had it out and I am still alive and well, I otherwise would have died in a matter of days. I can't ever repay that debt, you can't put a price on saving a life. That's something that cannot be replaced for any amount of money. And yet these people don't want to be paid for that, it's just "all in a day's work" for them. The rest they need to be paid for, and when you think about it that way, it's reasonable. Insurance helps an awful lot. Mechanics, along with plumbers, electrcians, etc., on the other hand, are a different story. Some say that they charge so much because of all the red tape they need to get through to run their business. Others say their prices are completely unreasonable. Either which way, it's still cheaper than a health care worker. As with all things, it's good to have a friend in the business.
