My Montero has the same amount of rattle in the interior bummer because it feels so solid but the interior rattles so bad I feel bad mainly because my girlfriend has to listen to it whenever I drive over speed bumps or just a badly maintained road (which is common where she lives) other than that solid vehicle, currently at 321k miles main problems is that it burns oil, like ALOT of oil, the exhaust always tends to crack on the 3.5l the trunk door moves quite a bit causing the annoying cabin noise which you hear in the video and unless it’s the limited the transmission comes in a 4 speed, top speed (as fast as I’ve gone in it) is 110mph and the 4x4 system is extremely solid, main concern is the sensors for the dif lock, 4 sensors dictate whether it locks or not and if one is out all of them won’t work (meaning you only have the option of 4h) other than that the car is built like legos extremely solid and a great platform I’ve taken my Montero through everything on stock suspension and street tires and the only thing that had me stumped was mud (due to tires) other than that great car for a solid price I picked mine up for 3k they stay extremely clean not fast by any means but it’ll get you to almost anywhere you feel the need to take it.

Monteros (Mitsubishis in general) get a bad wrap for being unreliable BUT its mainly because of owners neglect. I worked for Toyota for years and they suffer the same fate if neglected. Even though they get neglected...they will last longer than other vehicles of similar history, age, and use. Once you get the maintenance issues sorted out...they are extremely fun and reliable.

I assume the stop start can be de-activated, even if you have to do it "every time" and will last until the engine is switched off. Then do it all over. But lately I am hearing that manufacturers are going to a hard default maybe based on speed or time or something else crazy, in which I think the driver/owner is gestufftenhausen, and I will not purchase such a car. Can you comment on that for me regarding this vehicle. Most car You-tubers conveniently ignore the stop start issue and whether it has limitations we don't know of. I see no reason to buy a car over which I have no control over engine life. This stop/start crap is baloney. One can't build an engine to last with 150000 more starts over it's lifetime than an engine without stop start. In my opinion anyone believing that is possible is mechanically challenged. I sometime wonder how many people walk into dealers and drive out with cars with CVT's, three cylinders solid rear axles or stop/start and they don't even know it.

I only drive Mitsubishi Pajero since 1992. The Gen 1, two Gen 2's and now the 2006 Gen 3 GLS 3.0L V6 Petrol. Incredible cars on and off road. Pajero and Shogun Parts are available in Africa, EU, UAE, Australia, Japan etc. Montero being US spec could be a trick, but I reckon the parts are the same. Greetings from Uganda 🇺🇬👊🏿

I have a 4th gen. 2010 3.2 diesel engine model as a daily driver with zero modifications and it runs like a clock. Ever reliable and capable motors with a long track record, just not in the North American markets. If you are thinking about buying a used one, do your due diligence and buy with a confidence as they're very capable machines.

Have the 2005 Exceed 3 Litre petrol model (branded as Pajero) which was a Japanese import into the UK. Car only had about 50,000 miles when bought 18 months ago and is like new. I'm told Japanese cars made for their domestic market are built to a higher spec -not sure if thats true or just urban myth. I've converted mine for overlanding - removed all the seats and fitted a leisure battery in the huge recess at the rear and inverter. Also fitted a custom rack and roof tent made by a South African firm called 'The Bush Company' which I can highly recommend. Planning to ship it to the US next month for the next stage of our world tour and can't wait to do some serious off roading as its not an option here in the UK. Wish you all the best with your conversion.

Hey great vid was actually looking into these recently but as you said the lack of reputation, if any is intimidating. For 2200 that was a steal! I was wondering how many miles this one had im looking at a good example with 170k miles, limited trim as well but almost 3x the price, it does look more like its been garaged n stock so realistically my mileage and knowledge knowing parts arent the easiest to find are my benfits for bargaining! Thanks again and take care !

I’ve been looking at Pajero’s recently specifically the Oi Pajero and I imagine the model in this video had fairly high miles for that price depending when and where they bought it. If you’re willing to import the vehicle yourself you can still get a really nice full size for under USD$4k before fees and taxes. Not sure if that helps at all. I see people in my area trying to sell mini’s for CAN$10,000+ but I’m holding out for a better deal. If you’re worried about reputation check out the Dakar rally especially from 1985.
