@tommurphree5630
@tommurphree5630 2 жыл бұрын
Darn thing won't let me print properly . If a herbivore overpopulates , it causes an imbalance in the ecosystem . Plants become rare that other animals depend on . A food chain is disrupted , which can cause the whole system to collapse . Populations of herbivores are usually kept in balance by predators . But, humans always foul up ecosystems because there is no predator to keep them in balance . So, since there are too many humans , there are not enough animal predators to keep the population of horses in check . ( people love to kill mountain lions and bears ) So , that leaves us to control horse populations . The same problem exists with deer . The Spanish brought horses . There were none here before they came , except in prehistoric times , if my foggy recollection is correct .

It can be fine if they have plenty of space. Stallions in the wild form bachelor herds all the time because they are still herd animals and need to be in a herd. Unless its a bachelor challenging a lead stallion, these spars are mainly play, practice, and nothing serious. It’s like teenage boys rough housing to see who’s the tougher boy. People see things like this and then lock stallions away and alone and its sad. Horses need other horses, otherwise they decline mentally and physically. If you don’t want excess breeding, then geld the stallion. You can even see these 3 horses graze near each other after they stopped playing, and horses won’t do that if they’re stressed or in the middle of a big fight lol.

@barbarawheelerphoto
@barbarawheelerphoto 3 жыл бұрын
This occurred in 2012, Kimberley. The band was taken over by Majesty's lieutenant, Jack, who was band stallion for several years. Several of the horses have since died and others are in different bands with other band stallions.

So young a stallion but magnificent. He was obviously a great leader and protector of his herd. My heart is sad that he had to pass so young. But left his strong and beautiful genes to live on I hope forever! Rip you beautiful boy.

beautiful horses, do you know how long a stallion keeps a herd before another takes over? it seems alot of strength is required to hold and protect a herd of mares and foals.
@barbarawheelerphoto
@barbarawheelerphoto 3 жыл бұрын
There is no hard and fast answer to that, Rose. It depends on many factors, such as whether there are gathers by the BLM, if a stallion has a lieutenant to help him defend his harem, if there are any injuries and how experienced a stallion is at having a band. Even how smart he plays it. Some stallions are so quick to fight that they exhaust themselves and others who will only fight when they have to. I've personally seen stallions with stable bands for up to 14 years (that I know of, so probably longer) and keep them even through gathers, and stallions who lost their bands after a couple of years.

@@barbarawheelerphoto Nope, they do not. It's been known that American Curlies *don't* descend from the Bashkir horse of Russia (Which don't actually have curly coats!) since *1990*. Assuming that this is the Salt Wells HMA/Rock Springs Wyoming area, these horses are descendants of Laramie Stud and his son Rocket. The International Curly Horse Organization is a great source of information on American curlies, he's what they have to say about the Salt Wells HMA/Rock Springs curlies: www.ichocurlyhorses.com/uploads/6/3/9/5/6395943/preserving_curly_horse_types-_salt_wells_rock_springs.pdf
