another tip, the transducers will generate ambient heat in the water in a pinch about half a cap full of dawn dish soap no tap water there are contaminants in it. for stickers i use a product called UNDU, it softens the glue on the sticker but will not destroy the label underneath and it dries clear its fantastic enjoyed the video 👍

you need to use distilled due to minerals in water. also use a surfactant to reduce water tension it acts as a detergent too many records at once. just some tips 👍

This record was released in 1953, according to the Cadillac label catalog number, listen to this one released in 1952, written by Bill Haley who would later release it in 1955. 😉 kzbin.info/www/bejne/eJvLloOkqtF5e7c&ab_channel=The45Prof

If there are chips on the edges where the paper stuff in the middle is exposed, would it be bad to get the records wet as the water could soak into the middle layer?
@agarso
@agarso Ай бұрын
You mean like on a Columbia red label? I'm not sure of many others that use that method. No, I've cleaned hundreds of those and of the hundreds maybe 5 or 6 had a little "paper" exposed. I never had one damaged (any more) by that. Keep in mind that I've never cleaned any SEVERELY damaged Columbia reds, they just typically aren't worth it.

If you look through my videos here you'll see the one where I use an ultrasonic cleaner that I picked up on Amazon. If you're only cleaning a few then just use a plastic bristle brush in the sink using warm water and dish soap

Very nice, I've owned 3 Magnavox consoles from the mid 60's to early 70's that I bought new. Would love to find a nice one in my area now. One note on yours, the covers are installed in reverse. The right side should slide under the left side.

I love 10" record albums. I'm always looking for them. I have a VM changer, but it needs work. It's in an RCA console of great proportions, which also needs a lot of work, but they still function. Oh, and the dial cord broke. LOL.

It sounds like the Club Royal Orchestra used the newly invented (1920) Theremin as the lead melody instrument in this recording. I wonder if this is one of the first commercial recordings of the Theremin?
@agarso
@agarso 4 ай бұрын
Is that a Theremin? Sounds almost like a bow and saw but too quick and reliably pitched. I did read somewhere that Clyde Doerr was one of the inventors of the Varichord in 1939 but not sure if it's the same guy. Also definitely not this instrument as that is closer to the lap steel...
@CovertCulvert
@CovertCulvert 4 ай бұрын
@@agarso I can't prove that is what it is, but it certainly sounds like one to me given the recording quality available at the time and the fact that I've never heard one from that era. If you look up the history of the Theremin it says it was invented in 1920, so it is possible that it was used in that recording. Would love to know if that is really what it is, but I doubt if there are any written records that would verify it.

@@agarso Thank you for looking that up for me. It sure sounds like a Theremin, but I suppose it could be some kind of stringed instrument. Like you said, it sounds too precise for a bowed saw. The sound's envelope was what I noticed that really reminded me of the Theremin. It sounds like a Sine wave, not a saw wave like a violin/cello would. I listened again and the violin takes the second solo. Thanks again for the info!!

OK that's good if your not drinkin' alcohol...because this last one destroy the 78 rpm shellac coating....
@agarso
@agarso 6 ай бұрын
They get two coats of clear coat, alcohol won't affect them. Plus the alcohol content usually isn't high enough to do anything more than turn the shellac gray if left untreated.

One possible problem with using shellac 78s as coasters is that shellac dissolves in alcohol. So if an alcoholic beverage spills on them, they could be easily ruined.
@agarso
@agarso 7 ай бұрын
Possible I suppose, but I cover these in two coats of clear coat enamel. I tried a matte finish once but didn't like it, always go for the gloss now.
