Hello, is there a coating on the inside of the glass plate/cover/filter of the kohler illumination system that you cleaned? I cleaned mine and now it looks suspiciously clear compared to my other scopes...

Great explanation. I imagine for a lot of novice users, like myself, what we really want to know is, with a specific eye piece - whatever it is say 10x for our scope... if we replace the 10x eyepiece with a camera that has a 0.5x reduction lens, how will the field of views between the two compare. That is, will everything I have in the 10x eyepiece view be on the image, or not. If the camera systems had a way of helping the novice get a feel for how much of a Mx magnification eyepiece is also 'in view' in the digital camera image, that would go a long way to help folks. I know it depends, but here is where precision isn't' really needed - a rough estimate would be fine. So when I replace my 10x eyepiece with the camera and its 0.5x reduction, optically I'm going from 10x to 0.5x, so about a factor of 20 difference. So is the field of view of the camera about 20x as wide as the 10x eyepiece view?

Oliver, as always thank you for your efforts and great broadcasts. I just wanted to mention that I have 4 of those cameras (Name brand Mokose from Amazon) hooked to my ATEM Mini Pro ISO and they are fantastic. I have a home audio studio so my cameras don't need to do sound. Off subject, but would love it if you spent a few minutes on you broadcasting gear? Your audio and video are always excellent! Take good care, Jimmy in PA.

Even though my microscope hasnt arrived yet, I'm finding your videos absolutely absorbing! This was especially interesting to me as I have similar software on my computer that I use for my photography, so will definitely be utilizing this to enhance image's taken on the microscope. Once again many thanks for your invaluable videos.

I'm literally just starting out in microscopy having purchased a Tomlin DM620 Pro digital microscope, and your videos will be my go to source for educating myself. Am I right in thinking that the subject matter for mounting with pva should be as dry as possible to begin with, and can it contain a small amount of moisture? Thanks
@MicrobehunterMicroscopy
@MicrobehunterMicroscopy 8 күн бұрын
PVA glue is water-based, so it does not matter if there is some moisture present in the specimen. Other mounting media (resin-based ones) should be dry or at least be in a solvent that is compatible to the mounting medium.

You should have a video about replacing the entire set of objective lenses and where to buy them. My point is that you often state that all the objectives should be replaced at once. Additionally you state that 100x objective lenses can often be replaced with a 60x objective lens. For those who would like to purchase a 60x objective lens will probably not be able to get a 60x from the same series. Therefore this person must exchange all objectives and get a new set of 4 or 5 objectives. It would be nice for you to review entire series of objective lenses and tell the viewer which ali express objective series is the best bang for your buck. ppc

I've just bought myself a Tomlov DM 602 , 24mp microscope, and was looking for books to start, so your video was very helpful. I couldn't afford the new version of Heinz Weiss's book, but managed to grab a 1988 edition from a second hand bookstore for £6 which I'm hoping should be enough to get me started off, I also bought the other book you showed. Is there anything else you would advise me to get? I'm guessing slides and covers is one? anything else? I'm looking forward to starting this journey of discovery as I've always been fascinated by the world unseen.

🤚 Guilty of using the 40x with oil and not covering in the beginning. **Cringe**I made a dust free area where there’s a gentle mini slow fan in the air vent made of anti static acrylic with excellent lighting and I’m able to clean the lenses (I’ve found $900+ CAN microscopes on FB marketplace for under $50 but are quite dusty and dirty) so I’ll clean it up then put it inside to do the fine detailing of lenses, taking apart every layer.

Yes the last thing you said is correct. We called them dissecting microscopes and they were used for viewing mainly live cultures. The light scopes used mainly for c.s. And l.s. Slides. Viewing living Protozoa and algae etc. is by far the most interesting. The dissecting scopes allow jars with cultures of living things to be viewed.

Been there, done that… The 'scope I modded (~10 or so years ago) was an Olympus BX53 and the mod worked just fine (I repurposed an industrial HD "CCTV" camera intended for automatic inspection of PCBs right after the oven). To my knowledge, they're still using it in the teaching pathology lab…

I have one of these industrial cameras (different brand though), I made sure to get one with both an HDMI port and a USB 3 port. This means I can use my microscope camera software to control the camera. In fact I only used the HDMI port for the initial setup, after that I have always used the USB port,thugh

I just got my first good microscope as an adult (had a few lower end ones growing up without the mechanical condenser). I have been spending a couple days learning to use it, I was starting to catch on and understand what you explained in this video, but you just sped things up for me and now I have a much clearer understanding of the condenser. So thank you for that. Good to know you just leave it in the highest position, I couldn't find any advantage to lowering it and I was a bit baffled by that particular adjustment.

one simple, perhaps naive but serious question: (please answer) would the blood of a person with leukaemia look different to the blood of a healthy person using a dark field microscope?
@qualservfs
@qualservfs 22 күн бұрын
SW website: No, it is only brightfield. The SW350/SW380 brightfield condenser cannot add a darkfield accessory for darkfield observation, and the condenser is dedicated, and the brackets of different manufacturers cannot be interchanged, that is, the darkfield condensers of other manufacturers cannot be used on our microscopes.

yes; it is possible to obtain and add a mechanical stage; I got mine at Amscope. I have added this to several of my older scopes. It is important to know the mounting hole mm spacing on the stage; there are two sizes; it is well worth adding. They also have a nice mechanical stage for stereo scopes.

Science departments at universities also think there are more than two genders. If they can't get even the most basic of facts right, no amount of expensive equipment is going to make them better scientists.

The fact that the higher the magnification, the more unstable the visual information and the more precarious your ability to capture that information, has some sort of profound meaning to it. If photons are always the same at any scale regardless of the observer, why would the type of equipment and technique even matter? I'm excited to start using a microscope to get more insight into how light works in addition to viewing things at smaller scales.

You put the first polarizer below the stage condenser and the second polarizer (the analyzer) above the eyepiece? Nothing in your scope is going to be "stress free". Stress in transparent materials, even those that aren't normally birefringent, causes stress birefringence, which may reinforce or negate the color shifts you're trying to capture in birefringent crystals. There's stress in the lens elements in the objectives, the eyepieces, the condenser and (as you already discovered) the prism that gives you a more comfortable viewing angle. Seriously, you want the optical path to be light, condenser, polarizer, subject, polarizer, objective, prism, eyepiece. Build a mount that lets you put the polarizer below the objectives. Or get some stress free (aka "pol" or "DIC") objectives and put the polarizer in the main tube.

One thing you have to learn is how bacteria grows in your microscope lens and handles, you must clean your microscope before and after use where your eyes and hands are in contact, it is antibacterial wipes in the market and special ones for the lens to keep it clean and clear for any device which use lens.
