Did you ever make the plans for this public? I’d love to be able to print out the plans and adjust as necessary to fit my fireplace insert.

Just buy a chisel morticer. In a drill press I found a forstner bit better than an end mill. I presume also better than a router cutter. I used the drill press as it is intended and cleaned up with chisels. The mortice has a good chance of being square then. A milling machine is more versatile than a drill press. Especially if you want to mortice. Overall just use a machine for what it’s meant to do. 😅

Hey Wes, great video and timely for me as I’m getting ready to make a box out of 1/2” material. I get setting up the height but your explanation of how to set the fence wasn’t very clear. You said to move the Fence “until the bit is just touching the edge of our carbide tips” ??? This makes no sense to me…did you mean “until the bit is just touching the edge of the straight edge”??? Also you seem to be using a tri square there and the blade is up in the air so what part of the blade are you touching??? I’m being anal I know…I’m gonna make some test cuts to see if I can figure it out. Thx!

Plunging repeatedly makes for a clean slot. Hogging sideways makes for a nasty hole. Words to live by.

Can be done, and that's how I built all the cupboard trim for my caravan and trailer tent. Just use that rarest of traits....common sense.

Nicely done. The sound of that bit digging in the first time had my sphincter slamming shut! But obviously the operator is smarter than the average bear and knew precisely what to expect from this experiment.

The tear out is due to you not knowing how to do it 😂😂😂😂😂if you want a 1/2” dowel you’d want the blank to be 9/16” square lol

I'm a newbie and have a fixed-base trim router. A mortise bit came with a "beginners" bit set. I wondered how I could use it. Glad you did the "dumb stuff" for me! I won't put the mortise bit, or any other, in my drill! You need an isolation box with a thick plexiglass window, hand holes and steel mesh gloves!

I would only recommend this for chamfering holes as radial forces, especially on cheaper presses, are a big narp.

1: use a nail to hold the screen in place as you melt it in. 2: preheat teh bucket with a hot iar gun or your ole' ladies har drier. the base has to be molten to stick too.

I want you to know that because of this video, I went into my tiny shop and took a chance by taking out my hole saw kit and grabbing some scrap wood from a side job to try it. I instantly saw it coming into fruition. I don't have a lathe, and this video saved me from scrapping the yo-yo idea all together. Thank you.
