Yes. Though Laena is Rhaenys' eldest so by all accounts she is older than Rhaenyra - by 4 or 5 years. Anyway, I think he's referring to 'sparing' her in his demonic brothel scene, not in the sense or respectfully marrying someone as he did with Laena Velaryon. He really, genuinely loved Laena

I do love how this is for them. All of the time lost between them and being together after losing their significant other is weighing on them. And the only comfort they can find in their losses is with each other. I do like how they are with each other here. It is gentle, calming and peaceful. It is not hot sex or forbidden sex or just sex like we have seen with other couples within the Game of Thrones world. This is what it should be between two people, losing yourself with the other. Context behind droll tragedy: R says she missed him and he abandoned her (which he did) - so she was left all alone to deal with the horrible court politics etc which became a burden to her. Obviously she loves him, so life has been a tragedy for her. And then D responds "what do you think mine wasn't?" Which means he feels the same for her. He was kind of content with Laena but R is his true love- so much so that he considers it to be a tragedy to be married to someone else when shes out there. It's because she wasn't there that he couldn't be fulfilled and completely happy. Notice how when she asked him if he loved Laena, he did not say he loved her but said we were happy enough. And then R says " that is an achievement in itself"- meaning D doing even that is a big improvement (she's just blaming him because he abandoned her partly since Viserys did not agree to their marriage and because she was a child). And they make love less than 6 months after Laena's death. He did not really love Laena- he cared for her in a friendly way. Laena herself said that she knew she was not the wife he wanted, and Daemon protested but weakly (says so in the official scene script). Obviously he was pained by her death coz he was fond of her, but Rhaenyra is the love of his life. The books are based on 3rd party sources, often biased and hateful so I would take the relationship described there with a pinch of salt. Besides, those sources would not have really known what went on in private and in their heads.

None of them were children in that universe. Rhaenyra was 17 when she went to the brothel with him. Laena was 12 in episodes 1 and 2, and we were introduced to her again 4 years later, which makes her 16. In a world where they consider 14 is the aga where they are fit to get married. 16 and 17 are no way near children.

@@Chasingdreams25Also, the issue here is that the screenwriters for the show changed everyone’s age for no reason. Laena in the book was 23 when she met Daemon and married him. But their relationship has been completely butchered in the show.

I love that she makes the first move as an adult woman, knowing what she wants. I wish they would show more passionate females declaring their love. It is unusual to see, but it pulls you into her world, and finally we see a strong queen emerge.

I find it so selfish how Viserys did everything to make himself happy. He picked a wife of HIS OWN choosing that he LOVED had sons! then neglected them & forced rhaenyra to marry who HE wanted her to marry for GAIN not even love & all because of Otto

We usually give the Targaryens a free pass cause technically they are literally human/dragon hybrids they literally have dragon blood and magic in their dna so their incest is completely different and doesn’t exist. People say the incest made them mad I don’t agree it was their situations and what happens to them that turns them that way. Not to mention when they miscarry they literally give birth to dragon hybrids. I believe all the Targaryen woman that have babies they all have the dragon scales on their features inside the womb while they incubate and it’s not till the end of the pregnancy when they are almost due do those features start to disappear and they come out looking human however if the Targaryen mother miscarriages than the baby comes out looking like a hybrid. This is probably why the Targaryen woman have so many miscarriages and dies so more easily than any other woman in their time they are literally giving birth to dragon hybrids.
