And then there are madlads who play the entire WAD. Of course in that respect they have the BFG to help them out, but that only reduces the difficulty by a little since the countdown starts when you leave the opening sector The original Scythe as we all know has Run From It, which is bloody hard to UV Max. Using cheats I got 95% kills, so god only knows how you get to 100%. In Episode and Movie runs you can't, your run is over because you are a ghost for the next level Hell on Earth
@BeefGeeTV2 күн бұрын
having the BFG is a massive advantage because it kills the marines good and the timer doesn't start until you leave the platform, so you can kill a couple from there. Yeah, run from it is extremely hard to uvmax, I've never even bothered to try...

It's the first time I hear an explanation to why there is a difference in the sky in other source ports. So they just took advantage of a glitch? Or did they mean to have a different sky and the glitch changed it? If the first one is right, so why didn't they check this on GZdoom? Why didn't they care? Is it really a problem to just have the same sky for every source port? (I never really mapped so i have no idea)
@ShaolinFlunk4 күн бұрын
Your gameplay is fascinating to watch but why on earth would you ever play at less than native resolution?
@BeefGeeTV4 күн бұрын
Doom's native resolution is 320x240 ;) so most people are playing Doom in a resolution (and aspect ratio) it wasn't designed for. But ok, I get what you're asking. Even though 1080p might be my monitor's native resolution I find the "crispiness" of lower resolutions to be nostalgic. It reminds me of playing Doom in DOS on a CRT back in the day. But, I don't actually play in 320x240, I tend to play in 854x400. So, still a widescreen aspect ratio and still more than twice as detailed as vanilla Doom. DSDA handles scaling to any other resolution very well btw.
@ShaolinFlunk4 күн бұрын
@@BeefGeeTV also played on a 4:3 CRT and KB only when i was a kid but I gotta have a mouse, freelook and hardware rendering now like a blasphemer. But yea you have a very unique feel to your movement. Keep up the good work. To me the game itself is nostalgic, not necessarily the minor details in the rendering. Do you use the default bindings too or have you found a more efficient layout to play so good?
@BeefGeeTV3 күн бұрын
@@ShaolinFlunk Thanks! :) It's all default bindings except I use the 180 turn key a fair bit (which is a boom feature, not vanilla) and I have WASD mapped and use A and D to help me SR50.

Those are not slimetrails, but BSP glitches. Back in the 90's I did some mapping in DEU and also had a lot of those visual glitches. I tried to work around them, but they kept popping up. There was no internet back then and I couldn't ask anyone for help, it drove me crazy and I eventually had to give up. Much later, when Doom wasn't the cool kid on the block anymore, I figured out that I actually had to use a Nodebuilder (BSP Tool) after the wad was created. Nowadays it's already part of modern editors and we don't even think about it anymore.

Because the renderer wasn't made for it either? No idea about the technicalities, though. Maybe Carmack either didn't consider it or he did but decided it was redundant. At least Marathon is proof that it can be done, with a small caveat.

so is it o before a or a before o? Because you've just spelled it differently to the map name. Also, when pluralising do you drop the h like in the map name? I'm pretty sure your spelling is correct: Pharaoh. Meaning the map name spelling is incorrect. It should be: "Pharaoh's Tomb".

@BeefGeeTV8 күн бұрын
Can't say I've noticed what the current ouch face behaviour is in dsda/prboom. To be the same as vanilla it should be extremely rare (only occurring when you gain 20ish health while taking damage). I don't think there's a way to change how it works in the settings but I think it is pretty rare so it is in line with vanilla.

In contrast to the Unity port, it used to have a dedicated strafe button, but you wouldn't be able to set the function to the right mouse button like the original did. There's far too many features missing like HUD scaling on command by pressing - and +, as well as a pause button (not tied to the menu).
@BeefGeeTV9 күн бұрын
I mean, let's just be honest, community made source ports like DSDA and even GZDoom are way better (in every way) than the unity port was or this new KEX port is. Not that the official ports are crap, they're fine enough in their own way, but I'll definitely just stick to using DSDA.
