I know that Sketch Book from Autodesk is available on Android, but I don’t know really anything about it. I have downloaded it and spent like 30mins with the app and found it fairly intuitive and useful, so I might give that a try. But yes, the iPad with the Apple Pen is really just amazing. The second gen apple pen has so many awesome features, including the ability to use the side of the tip, like an actual pencil for your shading is just top notch. So, yes, while you can totally get by without spending the money on an iPad, once you get serious about your digital art, I just haven’t found anything that compares to the ease of use and functionality of this combo. And that’s coming from a guy who used to draw on one of those giant Wacom tablets you gotta hook up to your PC. But do let me know if you download Sketch Book and what you think of it as an android tablet user!

Rule 1. Take out the light source Rule 2. 1/3 black 1/3 color and 1/3 skin Rule 3. Put your black where you want just don’t let your blacks touch each other. Traditional tattoos came out of a necessity to get as many people in your chair as possible it was fast and simple.
@thetechietattooer
@thetechietattooer 20 күн бұрын
For sure. They used to have assembly lines where the one guy would do outlines, the next would do black, and the last would do color… no switching needles or inks 🤢 it was a crazy time. The only edit I might make to that rule break down is the third bullet point. When adding black, it does need to support the idea of shading the areas that should be pushed back or go behind other areas, and that skin breaks should be in the areas that need to be brought forward. But other than that that’s a great breakdown of the video. Thanks for watching and the solid summary 🤘
@tattoochance

@thetechietattooer
@thetechietattooer 20 күн бұрын
@@tattoochance but we need to keep in mind that the light source isn’t the only rule at play when considering how to shade the design. By removing the idea of light source, we are upping the precedence of the topography of the design overall as well as specific individual elements of the design. Each element will then have its own shape(s) accentuated by the shading applied to it, so the shading must adhere to/accentuate the peaks and valleys of each element and the design overall.

@thetechietattooer
@thetechietattooer 22 күн бұрын
Glad you got some use out of it. So I love the abstract idea of what you are talking about for a flash concept video. But do you have sort of a specific tattoo style in mind? American Trad is designed stiff as a stylistic choice. That specific style is meant to be that way and assembled on the body in a patchwork style that often has very little planning or consideration for the body part on which it will be applied. That is either a drawback or a “feature” depending on your personal aesthetic preferences. But I do understand what you are saying and would love to do a video about flash tattoos that are designed for specific areas of the body. But can you be a little more specific about a particular style you would like me to dive into?

In terms of making artwork, if you did a video explaining sketching an idea in Procreate and then transitioning over to Adobe Fresco to vectorize. For tattoo machines I recently picked up a Pope Irons T3 rotary hybrid machine and a 3D printed Coffin tattoo rotary machine from Electric Soul Tattoo machines. Would be nice to see a video going over non-tradtional machines and how they compare and/or thoughts. And it would be great if you could record one of your tattoo sessions and walk through your thought process in real time. Just some ideas

@straylightt I looked into it, and adobe fresco does not have a function for turning pixel art into vector art. Adobe Illustrator has a “image trace” function that will do what you are asking, but Fresco does not. The only option with Fresco is to use vector brushes to manually trace over your imported/existing pixel art.
@Straylightt

@@thetechietattooer Yes I ran into that the first time I tried Fresco too. Cool thing about Fresco is you can have rasterized and vector ones in the same document. I follow some artist like Ten Hundred on YT and he sketches in Procreate and does the render in Fresco. He does a lot of digital art for mercg though and not tattooing. I have a ton of Procreate brush packs so I'm not going to fully transition to Fresco yet. Thanks for looking into it!

I think the problem most artists are having with is AI is that they don't see it as a tool. Partially this is due to the fact that a 10 year old can put in a simple prompt and come out with a fairly impressive result. On top of this the 10 year old is generally saying "look what I made". Not acknowledging that the tool made the art not the kid. As an artist it can be heartbreaking and defeating if you buy into the idea that a 10 year old kid easily made good art that it took you years to learn. You probably wonder if you wasted your time and if you are now obsolete. If you view AI as an art tool there is no way that 10 year old would be able to make a better piece of art than you if you are truly a good artist. Maybe you view AI as cheating but consider this.. Do you make your own paper or canvas and paints and brushes or pencils or inks or do you buy them? If you buy those tools to make your art easier does this make your art less legitimate? I think it was jack white that once said he like to play guitars that had issues and were hard to play to create a challenge for himself. But he also acknowledged that the person listening didn't realize or care about how challenging or how much work he put into playing that guitar that didn't play well and making it sound great. They only cared about what they heard through the speakers. If you need the process for your own gratification you can take that path but regardless you will be competing with the end result of the tools of the time and will be judged against them. Use them or don't but it may be beneficial to embrace AI tools and use them to more easily create your vision.

You've talked about air quote tracing and stamps a couple times. I've been chewed out for tracing or hard referencing more than deemed reasonable a couple time by professors and colleagues. I was wondering if you could dm me or just like a video essay on this. There's a dichotomy between time available and what constitutes "art" vs. like tracing, and all that is just wilder with AI. I have recently gone back into art hard and am terrified of stamps and tracing because of my college art classes.
@thetechietattooer
@thetechietattooer Ай бұрын
@ithejanitor shoot me a message on Instagram and we can talk. But the short answer is: using stamp packs and references created with AI is great for speeding up your workflow as a producing professional. The only issue is that you need the art background to be able to make the references better and not rely on them too heavily. However, if you are still in an academic setting (even an independent one) you need to be doing your best to create 100% unique designs in order to hone your style and techniques of line work , color theory, composition, etc… in order to get the core concepts of artistic expression into your toolbox of skills

Great video! Thanks so much for sharing that. When it comes to the packing in black, is it a must to lower the voltage? I’m finding that when I go lower it ends up looking way too patchy and taking so long. But if I stay at my preferred voltage (which is 8v) it all just works much better. Is that considered too high for packing or is it just an individual hand speed thing?
@thetechietattooer
@thetechietattooer 2 ай бұрын
@@Qu4ntumDreamer when tattooing on human skin, you want to reduce voltage to lessen the trauma caused to the skin. So yea, you want to run your machine slower for packing than lining. But also, when you are just working on fake skins, speed isn't a real issue, except for getting the practice in of going slower and being more methodical during packing to get used to "causing less trauma". But realistically, that is something you can just keep in mind when you get to live clients or yourself, and you can reduce speed when you cross that bridge. Switiching to real human skin will require several adjustments like different depths for different areas of the body, slower speeds for packing, differing textures of skin, etc... That's why some folks practice on oranges, cuz tattooing a ball shape helps with hand techniques for moving in not just a straight line, but literally around a 3d object.
