Are the previous volumes (1 and 2) intended for beginners? I purchased them this morning but haven't started learning yet.

Amazing stuff! I'd also love another series on abstract effects, similar to the course you were involved some years ago ;) Would that be possible? The content for that course was sooooo cool!

Thank you! I'll be putting out a lot of content this year and next. I think you'll find as the tutorials progress, I'll cover more things like in the abstract effects course. Right now I am building up the tutorials, starting with intro and beginner content, and then moving into intermediate and expert level stuff.

my coworker took this a step further, used NearPoint in the solver to detect points close by, then did a Dot Product. If the dot product was above a threshold, he set @N to 0. That prevents the intersections and inside-out areas shown at the end of this, also works to avoid other meshes as a sort of collision
@adamswaab8013
@adamswaab8013 7 ай бұрын
Awesome that your coworker took this further. As an intro lesson this was about showing the concept of solvers, not taking this example all the way. I’ll point out that nearpoints is somewhat problematic, as that only gives you point-point collisions. You want to use xyzdistance() to get point-mesh intersections. You can also use intersect() to shoot rays from your points for collision detection(very useful as well).

very cool, could you share how you setup the forearm twist?
@adamswaab8013
@adamswaab8013 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I do a bone chain that has subdivided prims - so, for lower arm, it gets subdivided into 5 points. Then I grab the local rotation matrix for the hand, convert to eulers, get just the z component, run that through a loop that gives a % of it to the twist bones, set their local matrices, and then set the world matrix of the hand back to the original matrix.

@adamswaab8013
@adamswaab8013 3 жыл бұрын
No, no plans at the moment for re-release at the moment, but perhaps in the future. The kineFX toolset has new methods of working with characters, which made this workflow obsolete - that's why it was removed from Gumroad.

I've been wishing for a tool similar to what DAZ and Animate+ brought to the table, and your tool for Houdini looks marvelous! Now with Houdini 18.5, I can't think of a better time to start practicing designing characters and working with animations, using their new character tools. I've seen your Gumroad page - how has your development progressed with retargeting? I'm hoping now with v18.5, it will make that task easier for you! I'm really interested in this tool!
@adamswaab8013
@adamswaab8013 4 жыл бұрын
Hi WIlliam, Thanks for the comment. This tool should still work in Houdini 18.5 (untested so far, but in theory, it should work). I didn't attempt re-targeting because I heard inklings of a retargeting workflow being worked on for 18.5, so it didn't seem prudent. Now that KineFX is out and we see that everything has been moved to SOPS I will have to work on revising this to work in the new KineFX workflow. I'm not sure yet whether to pull this from the gumroad store or not in the interim. What do you think?
