As fellow French renovators fully understand what you are saying. It is hard when there are only the two of you. A simple job like knocking a wall down takes 2 days and then all the clearing up. It is hard work and at times very overwhelming. Some times you just have to stand back and look.. and breathe.

Have you looked at Lapeyre for windows or Leroy Merlin? We have found both to be reasonable and good quality. We have bought from both if the sizes weren't available and to be honest once installed there was no notable difference.. every penny helps..

I've just joined you. I hope your series will be as entertaining as Dan & Nick's with his "Escape to rural France"? I'm an American retiree who's lived in Picardie since 1999 and I love it here, I even married a French girl. It takes a while to become accustomed to French ways but once immersed in the culture it's easy (just do the opposite of what you think is normal and you'll discover it's the right way to proceed) I think it's related to the language putting adjectives after nouns and forcing everything to fit a masculine or feminine path.
