Cardboard boxes and mylar blankets can be built into a cocoon. Stitch 2 to 3 big cardboard boxes together and layer with mylar blanket and sleeping bag. It may look like a big coffin but it will provide a warm space. Same as setting up a camping tent and cover up with blanket. It is wasting energy to warm up the whole sitting room.

solar is a joke, unless you have a number of solar panels. in the best of summer days you only get about six hrs of good charge. the farther north you are the less you get. winter ( clouds) think No charge. plan accordingly. as to a generator. get at min a 5000 WHATT unit. NOT a open frame construction unit. best is a duel fuel, gasoline/propane. propane hates cold temps, so keep it is a semi warm location. ( above 50F). in those RV cans it can last for years no problem. gasoline still works below freezing in (F orC). does not store as long. but in really bad cold the oil in any motor can “freeze up”. destroying the motor if you try to start it. water cooled motors make sure the anti freeze is new and mixed for your cold temps. only use distilled water. and no mater your power source. have a large battery bank. solar is worthless with out battery's, do research here. on line there are plenty of people that know how and why to do things.

Yeah do' do the aluminum over cardboard as a reflector. Fire hazard. Try a sand battery and a wood stove fan instead....forget the terra cotta pots, too expensive and not enough heat for the time and trouble. Think fire safety FIRST!

Good ideas. Pot heaters are known for getting the candle wax hot enough to ignite and cause a fire. If you're going to use one, use only one candle per heater and use a stand to keep the pot above the candle. The heat should rise into the pot so the candle wax doesn't over heat and ignite. Place multiple single candle pot heaters around the room rather than one large multiple candle heater that could get so hot that it catches fire. You can use a pot saucer as a base for the heater. You can also bold a smaller pot inside the larger one but keep a gap between them. The hot exhaust gas rises into the center pot flows out of the bottom as some of the heat energy is absorbed, rises inside the outer pot as more heat is absorbed, and of the outer pot. I also recommend oil lamps. You can get them from cheap to expensive. Oil lamps release a lot of heat. Plus, you also get some usable light. Oil lamps, when used properly, can be way more safer than candles. It's still a flame, but it is contained in a glass chimney or globe depending on the lamp.
