Another great installment. I'm somewhat surprised by how many people you encountered - I guess that reinforces my preferences for hitting the western mountain areas in Spring and Fall, however it is starting to get that way all the time 😢. Quick question; at one point you mentioned airing up/airing down... what set-up do you use for that?
@thistediouspath4 күн бұрын
Hey Thanks! This was just before hunting season out there so people were out doing some glassing and getting their camps ready. Lesson learned. I think the sweet spot is mid-June for that area. Right after the snow melts and before city folk get the itch. We are running the Viair 400P with a hodgepodge of stuff from NAPA. It works. It gets hot AF and we really should have something a little more robust for 33s and a trailer. Looking at the ARB Twin Motor with a tank but that's a 1k solution for something that's not really a problem right now. We just use the screw on brass deflators that you can set to a certain psi.

PS: the music in the background at about 9:55 ; wasn't sure whether you added that aftwerward or it was playing in the background in camp, but be careful iif you're playing copywrited music. The KZbin police can block your channel if you're playing copywrited music.
@thistediouspath11 күн бұрын
Yeah, It was music in the background at camp. YT has 'checks' before a video goes public and we've had one get a copyright warning and we just edited it and re-uploaded it. So, when if it doesn't trigger the filter, I guess its safe? But for real, I think nearly all of our videos have an Arctic Monkey's song playing in the background at some point. ;)

Hi There! Another great vid as always. Etiquette on the road: the horse and rider have the right-of-way, but they also are supposed to clear off and let you pass when safe to do so. As far as the etiquette with the ATV/side-side: they have none whatsoever. Its like they don't believe any rules apply to them because they're not driving a street-legal vehicle.
@thistediouspath11 күн бұрын
The horse rider moved to the side and gathered his dogs at the top of the hill. We just didn't know how far to follow, you know, cuz horses are unpredictable. As far as the SxS and ATV's - The younger the rider, the more respect and trail etiquette they have. Probably because of the instruction and tests they have to take. Makes us think everyone should have to go through a course to drive one! Again, thanks for watching!

As @CDNJEEPOVERLAND noted, your content is so much more than an ad for MO Summit. I do like to refer to your channel for ways to "tweak" my Summit's setup, etc, but mostly I watch your channel because you make great vids! That campsite at 6:03 was epic, but I'd be worried about wandering around in the dark under the influence of adult beverages..... It truly is a blessing that you dodged the fire, too! Please keep putting out the great vids, and maybe we can meet up along the road somewhere.

We appreciate the feedback! Don't worry, Lissa kept me from getting too close to the edge after dark. That fire weighed heavy on us for a few days. We may have driven right into it had we stayed another night. It's such a beautiful area, too bad one mans decision can create such a loss. Propane fire pits - safe, cheaper overall, takes up less space and you don't have to worry about where the wood comes from. Thanks again, we will see you out there!

I have to assume your channel is eventually going to blowup (in a good way), so I thought I’d leave a comment when your subs are still in the 200’s. I was initially looking for independent MO Summit reviews that don’t play like an ad, but stayed for your sense of humor and entertaining adventures. Keep on keepin’ on! Oh, and no Summit for me… yet 😂
@thistediouspath18 күн бұрын
@cdnjeepoverland Hey thanks! We started this channel just to show our friends and family what we were up to... and gripe about that Opus Lite. I don't think it will blow up anytime soon as we don't have enough epic music, caves, abandoned cabins or recoveries. It would be cool to do this for a living but like anything, doing it all the time would take the romance out of it, you know? We're just happy to have a few people enjoy it! Good luck on your search for a trailer!
@cdnjeepoverland18 күн бұрын
@@thistediouspath appreciate the reply - can you think of any reason I shouldn’t buy a Summit? I’m in the market for a slightly used unit - of course there’s the potential for leaks with the canvas, but I really like the ability to stand and even convert the bed to a table vs the usual teardrop or crawl in type of off grid trailers. Oh, and as far as video content, I don’t need any drama thanks very much… just great scenery and everyday life on the road.
@thistediouspath18 күн бұрын
@cdnjeepoverland I hear ya, we like predictability and having a plan. If our videos are boring to the masses, they can always click over to the bigger channels. I see a 2022 Summit on RvTrader right now for 22k. Not sure where it is and I'm guessing you're in Canada so that might be a hurdle. I don't have any complaints about our Summit itself. The Truma Combi hot water/heater can be finicky but that's not Missions fault. We have had zero problems with the canvas leaking or anything. That reminds me, we should probably reseal it. Other than minor dust ingress in a few spots, we have no deal breaker problems. I'll say yes, they are pricy, but as always you get what you pay for. Stay tuned, working on another video as I type this!

Such a beautiful area at any time of year - but when the aspens are in full display it is trly favulous, I'm curious how your tow vehicle is holding? I first towed my Summit with a Jeep Gladiator, but I found that the trailer was making my Jeep work too hard on the highway transits.
@cdnjeepoverland26 күн бұрын
Gas or diesel? Rubicon on 4.10s? Did you re-gear? Sell the trailer or upgrade your tow vehicle? I’m seeing lots of Gladiator-pulled Summits on the interweb! Curious as I upgraded to 5.13s and am in the market for a Summit as we speak.
@thistediouspath26 күн бұрын
It's 'fair' at best? I can run 80 on the freeway with the trailer loaded. It's a 4runner so using the cruise and gas mileage are out. Maybe 9.5 mpg in 4th gear 90% of the time. On the trail it's fine, I found my self in 1st gear in 4HI quite a few times on the longer ascents at higher altitude but that's to be expected. Thanks for checking us out. More to come!
@dalekarraker685125 күн бұрын
@@cdnjeepoverlandI was pulling mine with a 2021 Gladiator WILLYS, 3.6L GAS, re-geared to 4.88s. The JT pulled my Summit fine if I kept it below 70, but on the long mountain passes in Colorado where you're pulling a steep grade for a lot of miles, it would still manage it but it drank a lot of gas - 11 MPG and lower was the norm, and just 23 gal in the tank. Even with that said, if I lived closer to the mountains I would have kept my Gladiator. However with a Minimum 900 miles on the interstate before I ever reach the mountains the Jeep can be loud and a bit rough. No knock on the Jeep because I'm also almost 65 and my behind would get a little sore after the long days behind the wheel. I LOVE LOVE my Saummit and can't see me trading for anything else. But I switched my tow vehicle to F150 4x4 with 5.0L engine and 36 Gal tank. Yes, I sacrificed the Jeep's clearance and agility off the pavement, but the pickup will go "most" of the places that I'd take my trailer, so I'm okay with the trade-off.

But it´s not the first time that I read comments like "it seems that the manufacturer never travel with this"...and it fits to your video...Sad to see because I really love the idea of the OPUS and from the first view it looks so cool....and it costs as much as a big caravan. Sorry that you made that experience but thanks for sharing. Anyway, I hope you can enjoy the holidays somehow.

It sounds like you do some serious offroad, im looking for something more for light offroad and sticking around for a few days. Sounds like a patriot camper or something similar would fit your style better. Thanks for the honest review. Did you find something that suits you?
@thistediouspathАй бұрын
@Jacob-rn From what I've read, the initial run of the Opus line was great. It was then outsourced to China and they slapped them together leaving the dealerships to fix many of the problems. Especially the water and dust ingress along all the seals while closed. We traded the Opus Lite in for a Mission Overland Summit before we even got home from that trip. Realizing we were going places levels above what the Lite was built to handle, it was an easy choice. If you take look at our channel, you can see the Summit in action - its streets ahead of the feeble Opus Lite. Pricy for some, sure, but its Canadian made, backed by a decent warranty and built for the hard shit.

Hey. Great job on your videos. I have a 4Runner also and I’m looking at purchasing a Mission. Just recently had my truck geared to 4.56. How has it been towing the Mission on your trips?
@thistediouspath2 ай бұрын
@erickweinzapfel196 TL/DR - Good. Your gearing will improve the experience. On the trails its was great; tracks well, suspension handled what the stock 4Runner TRD Pro on 33s can handle and the breaks worked as intended. We ran 6 or 7 mountain ranges throughout Utah and it got a little doggy on some of the ascents. Felt good going down - we have a RedArk in dash break controller, ran it on proportional mode the whole time. We had it loaded up for a 3 week trip. 30 some gallons of water, two 5 gal Jerry cans, 40lb of propane, food, too much beer, etc. It comes in at 2450lb dry. It had to be closer to 3000. So it's below the 80% rule. I did weigh it, but I don't have the numbers... It actually felt better (balanced) when fully loaded. Using manual and dropping it down to 2 or 3 is obviously mandatory but we had to go down to 4Lo a hand full of times on the trails. It got a little worse at higher elevations, like +9000ft. Plus we were using 85 fuel. Lesson learned, there. One of the draw backs of getting fuel out in the middle of nowhere repeatedly. The Summit has a bounce to it when empty. In fact, we ran the 1300mi back home with it loaded, less the fuel in the Jerrys. Its a brick pulling a brick. So the MPGs were in the 10.5 range, loaded and empty. Odd, I know. Forget about using the cruise control. It feels good back there on the freeway though, no sway or crazy sh!t when breaking hard. I can only compare it to a Jetski at 800lbs, which was nothing lol and an Opus Lite camper we had last year coming it at 2380lb. The Lite had a low profile and smaller tires so gas mileage was better but the trailer was worse in every other conceivable way. Any more questions, let me know and I'll try to help. Good luck on your search and thanks for watching!

The Wasatch is one of the most under-appreciated regions in the country, but those mosquitos are brutal!! After a bad experience with the skeeters on the Grand Mesa in Colorado an absolue indispensable part of our gear is bug repellant for ourselves, and we usually have one of those Fxxx Mosquitos coils burning around camp. Great Video as usual!!
@thistediouspath3 ай бұрын
@dalekarraker6851 The Wasatch Plateau is undeniably under rated. We did less than 1% of the area but with the southern part of the Skyline closed its hard to connect the trails. Anything over 9500 feet still had snow drifts on north facing slopes. We are considering making a trip up there in mid October linking it with the Uinta mountain range. I think seeing the trees change would be epic. We run with a couple Thermacell mosquito repeller's and one electric Thermacell that works at high elevation. And of course classic Deep Woods Off. (As much Deet as the EPA allows) Hate to put the bug spray on - but sometimes its necessary.. The mosquitoes we encountered in the first part of the video we desperate, they didn't care what we brought. And thanks for watching our videos, we appreciate your insight and feedback. @@thistediouspath Hey here's a tip we learned over many years of dry camping: Buy several sets of the higher end STRONG paper plates. As you consume them you scrape them off with dirt from the trail and haul them out with your trash or burn them. Less cleanup time and saves water. As an option, you can use your regular plastic or tin camp plates for the strength, and put the paper plates on top of them as a "liner". Then just burn the paper plates. The other thing we do is have one "all purpose" pan and one skillet to reduce weight and space, and you also gain some cleanup time.
@thistediouspath3 ай бұрын
Thanks for the feedback! We stopped using paper plates when we switched to a propane fire pit and got our first trailer with a sink. We got some Sea to Summit plastic camping plates. Only thing there was they make everything taste like dish soap no matter how much you rinse. Now we are on some Barebones enamel plates and bowls. They work great but are loud af. Like, the utensil scrapping is akin to nails on a chalk board. At the same time we also started just eating out of the pan like a couple Neanderthals. Seriously, most breakfasts are ate straight out of the pan.
