Seems KZbin removed Annotations altogether in 2019. So this video is basically useless if you're not speaking Dutch. Can you upload a transcript?

All, if you're not seeing the English annotation boxes pop up, check your settings. You may also need to add a browser add-in (like I did) to retrieve the annotation information. THIS HELPS GREATLY.

How did you get the trap open? I have a CP-6SAR and it looks like the aluminum tubes are press-fit onto the plastic ends and then dimpled to hold them in place.

@@snuitje100 How did you determine this trap was the problem? This is the bottom-most vertical trap, correct? Did you need to do this (or a similar) fix to any of the traps on the radials?

@Devin: the antenna couldn't be tuned anywhere so the most logical place to start was the first trap.

Dear Stan, after 10 years your video is still useful, I first watched at it when I bought my used CP6 antenna in 2014 and I noticed that it didn't tune at some higher frequencies. Watching to your video I relaized that the central screw of the first trap is a Capacitor connection and that in my antenna it was missing. So I added the srew and the antenna worked for long time. Now after few years I tested the antenna and It doesn't tune to any frequency, it starts working at 50Mhz!!! Sign that after the first element all the rest is probably disconnected and probably I have to adopt your solution. When the weather will help I will go on the roof and I will dismount the antenna and will make you know, but for sure it will be something you showed. Thank you for all. Antonio (Rome IW0FCI)

Thanks for this my CP6 had taken a good battering, so i opened the first trap it was intact but i added the extra rivets and used rivets to reseal the trap. That part of the CP6 is very strong now and the antenna seems to cope better in high winds now

Hi Stan and many thanks for the informative video. One question related to the actual performance -resonant f of the trap- have u measured it with a dip meter or VNA, or you just put it back in place and check how the full antenna system performs? Many thanks again!

Thank you for the compliments. Nothing was really changed after repair of the first trap, nor number of windings or length of the wire and connection points. After completion of the repair and placement of the antenna i have performed measuments with a MFJ-259B analyser and everything turned out to be perfect.

Hi, thanks for posting this informative video, I have a Cp6 and have a fault, how did yours manifest itself, mine has failed to tune on 15M. Did yours fail on all the bands? Symptoms?
@snuitje100
@snuitje100 10 жыл бұрын
The problem with the antenna was that it could not be tuned to any band. It was caused by heavy wind gusts and that made the coil connection break of it's connection. I assume that with your CP6 the 10m band still works but everything above 15m doesn't. If that's the case open up the first trap and you will probabely find the problem there. 73, Stan/PA8C

Hi Dave, Tnx for the compliments. Don't be jealous it will only limit yourself. This installation is based outside a urban area and that makes things a lot easier. Btw the old FB-33 beam is completely overhauled by me and performs like a new one at my QTH for well over two years now. 73, Stan/PA8C

@mango3586 Tnx for commenting on this video. I need more info to be able to diagnose what could be wrong. Why did it die on you? Wrong load, short circuit or excessive Amps drawn from the PS. Any schematic available? Just some questions from my end to diagnose the problem. 73, Stan

@24nov67 Unfortunately the design hasn't changed. However that doesn't mean it's a bad antenna. Problems only occur if there is to much mechanical stress on the bottom part of the antenna. If you want a multi band antenna like a CP6 you always can improve the imperfection by following what I have done. It won't alter the electrical performance but mechanically it's a major improvement that will lengthen the life of the antenna substancialy. I wish you every success in making the right decission.

Are they still like this or has diamond sorted out the problem? i was going to get one but don't like the idea of paying £300+ for an antenna that has design problems.

My Maldol is this design, but it has 6 rigid radials and five traps on the vertical element. What model is it? I cannot find the manual. It's not exactly a CP6. It has only one capicatance hat.

@2e1ays Hi Paul, Thanks for commenting on the video. I hope you could understand what I did to improve on the construction. I agree with the fact that the CP6 is a good antenna onces the mechanical imperfections are improved. The CP6 is now working like a dream and the owner is very pleased with the results. 73, Stan/PD0LUR

Hi I had the same problem in 2005 and ordered a new 40M trap from the USA, Cost in total £100. Since then me and some friends have had the same problem, we did the same repair back in 2006, and not had any problems.a friend also bought a new CP6 and we had to do this repair befor he could use it. Very poor designed but a very good antenna if you have limited space. Best 73's Paul 2E1AYS

My pleasure. Thanks and I hope it's clear now. The antenna is fully operational again after the repair and the mechanical construction is drastically improved. One comment to make is to make sure that the weather protection on top of the traps is sufficiently so no water is entering the traps. 73, PD0LUR
