I've seen a version of this sweep taught where your inside knee is not all the way through but rather hits your opponent on the chest - see adam warzinski's video of this for eg. Do you like using this variation as well or do you prefer having the inside knee all the way through past your opponent's butt?

Yes, I use that variation as well! There are many ways to do the John Wayne sweep, the one you mentioned is a longer range one that uses the bottom shin as a crowbar. I'll talk about that in the next part :)

Great instructional! Just had cervical disc replacement surgery so I'm trying to learn to play more in half guard and deep half instead of inverting.
