Is the retrieve there on the jig a drag or a full lifting and falling off the bottom?
@Masseyfishing2 ай бұрын
This trip I was lifting it and letting it fall. They hit it on the fall most of the time.

@ awesome thanks for the reply

@@cliff1422you’re welcome! Always experiment with your retrieve. Sometimes a very slow crawl on the bottom is good, sometimes a small hop off the bottom, 6” or so. Always mix it up until the fish tell you what’s the preferred method that day.

While fishing with your dad I asked how does he know what the bottom of the lake looks like? His answer was very astute. "It looks like the land above the shoreline." You have a good father. This trip looks like you had a good time.

Anyone that can answer, I'd really appreciate it. Is this something you generally do with a baitcaster? I only have a spinning setup bc I'm pretty new to fishing, but I have managed some skips when I'm feeling really confident and have already gotten into the flow. I just know I can't be consistent that way. Can anyone let me know?
@Masseyfishing9 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching! Skipping with a bait caster is not a quick learn. It took me a while to get to where I’m at now. Lots of back lashes and bent hooks while learning. I still backlash occasionally now. I throw a baitcaster more than a spinning set up because of the baits I’m using. A jig or vibrating jig requires a heavier rod and line in order to be more successful. I’m not saying you can’t throw those baits on a spinning setup, you’ll have a better success if you use a casting rod. I do however use a spinning rod set up when fishing a senko type bait around docks, wacky rig or Texas rig. I will usually use a 20-30 lb Seaguar braid mainline with a fluorocarbon 8-12lb leader. Practice, practice, practice and soon enough you’ll have no problem skipping under cover. A lot of guys leave behind the biggest fish around docks simply because they can’t get their bait to them.
