I’m trying to think long a way the slot can be notched out so there’s no exposed slit at the sides? Has anyone found a solution?

Best idea so far but I think I might try a router or square drill bit from the bottom and not have the exposed openings on the sides

I would have made the jig tight side to side and just offset it by 1/2 the plate width and then just flipped the post 180 degrees and cut again.
