I'm reading a lot of negativity in the previous posts. Yea, I wear gloves but sometimes I forgot. Etc. Etc. I will also say spend the time upfront to build (screw, glue, however) a stack of wood that matches the hight of your chop saw.

3:07 AM You sent I have an old large paper cutter...guillotine...that is out of alignment. The top of the trimmed paper is 2 mm less than the bottom of the sheet. I believe it may have been a school's tool in it's former life and that degree of misalignment was inconsequential. I need a perfect cut for bookbinding. Any suggestions?...(wonderful video)

I have a cutter that is very similar the lady that gave it to me said that her grand father owned it then her father than her when they closed a store here in Canada I believe about 3 years ago now she gave me it. I want to restore it but was afraid to take it apart. Thanks for this video it may just help.

You have a bit of history with your cutter. When you restore it, you will have your story to go along with it. Maybe even show the person you got it from after you restore it.

I restore things also, when you place an object in a vise, there is a tendency especially if it’s metal, That’s a vise Will leave a mark on the object. What I do is use an old leather belt, I cut that up and wrap the object protecting it. Just an idea, it would be a shame to have something so old and gouge the object from the vise.

My hands are tough. Lol. Yeah I noticed that not everything was as safe as it could have been but I do understand grinder safety. My face is never in line with the grinding wheel and I'm wearing Goggles. With a cutoff wheel I would have changed my style. This was a grinding wheel. Always make sure you do what you are comfortable doing. Thanks for the comment.

I agree. The plating that is left on the helmet is on the top in the shape of whatever piece was affixed to it. I have been doing research but I have yet to find an example for me to copy. If anyone would know what it looks like or provide any picture would be greatly appreciated.

I used a 4" side grinder with an abrasive cut-off wheel to cut most of the hub off. I then used a grinding wheel on what was left to smooth down to a cylinder shape. No precision machining. It worked well.
