Great segment. It was interesting to learn of how the film was shot while maintaining the perspective from the children. I much prefer the original to the changes in the special edition. It appears more authentic. And I never knew that m&ms were the original candy planned to be used. Their loss!

Thank you Rob. There were so many other interesting facts that I found that could not be added due to time and rhythm of the video. It was a lot of fun and very hard to put together, especially the interviews. Both interviewees gave amazing insights.

Thank for such an in-depth review of a movie I also remember with fondness. I saw the film during its initial release back in 1977 and my sister and I really enjoyed it. The theater installed the Sensurround sound system and it made the coaster rides even more exciting. It should have made a lot more money than it did at the box office but if memory serves me well, it came out two or three months AFTER Star Wars and very few movies were able to compete with such a financial juggernaut that summer. The following year it turned up on HBO and then around 1979-80 to broadcast television. It has been neglected over the years but I’m glad it’s been rediscovered. And yes, I’m sure your dear mother was watching it with you🙏

1:01 is the smaller beer league cd a VCD version of the movie? Surely not a soundtrack.. can't imagine such a movie having a soundtrack

The movie is obviously a metaphor for the economic ramifications of the rise in synthetic latex sex toy prices due to the Iran-Contra affair and the international space station.

Excellent episode. You highlighted these classic movies really well. That scene where Ray was possessed in Ghostbusters II used to freak me out as a youngster. Paul Reubens being offered the role of Gozer is an interesting fun fact. I could never imagine that no matter how hard I try.

It's a classic. Much like watching A Christmas Carol every year. If you have the anniversary edition of the first Vacation Harold Ramis does an amazing job on the commentary. Very insightful and paints a vivid picture about how that production was almost a disaster.

Honestly always loved this movie as a guilty pleasure too like watching any kevin smith movie, or waiting. Anthony Desando was great, hell the whole cast worked well. Plus the biggest plus was Cara Buono is a smoke show so I'll drink to that. Salute!

Great review of a classic 80's flick. Your insight on the culture and representation depicted throughout was spot on. I liked the bonus facts regarding the actors and filmmakers, especially Sean Penn remaining in character throughout the entire filming (very difficult for just anyone to pull that off).

From what I can tell, it looks to be a little more detailed after the first roller coaster derails. The payback scene at the end is the same as the DVD.

Rollercoaster is a fun film . Can't understand why the critics hated it. I will say it , they are idiots . Rollercoaster does what it's supposed to do, entertain and excite you , this is reason enough to see it. I love it.

I believe they grouped it into the “disaster genre” of films and just barely noticed it.

My dad videotaped this film off the TV in the 1980s and I watched it with my mam and dad when l was about 9 years old. It's been a lifelong favourite of mine. I later found out this film was from the creators of the brilliant Columbo series which l am also a huge fan of. I now own this film on special edition Blu Ray. ps. sorry for your loss.

I'm sorry to hear about the passing of your mother :-( I'm happy to hear someone else loves this movie as much as I do. It's a great little "Hitchockian" thriller with a great score by Lalo Schifrin, and with awesome performances by Segal, Bottoms, and Widmark. I first saw it when I was 11, in 1997, when my dad and I saw it at an entertainment store. We got it on VHS, and I assume it was released for the film's 20th anniversary. I don't group the film in with the disaster films like Airport, Poseidon Adventure, or Towering Inferno, but crime thriller like Bullit, Dirty Harry, and the French Connection. I wish some extra scenes would have been filmed to expand the investigation and mystery, also wrap up loose ends. I also wish they would have kept the Wonderworld sequence.
