I see what you're saying. Buuuut, I also don't speak Garifuna, some didn't speak English, so it was a good idea to interview them in Spanish instead.

The first 2 minutes, covering history and origin is inaccurate. (This is why we must tell our own story instead of others telling it.) We were exiled to Baliceaux. And as I understand it, *we* made our own way to Roatan (After 100s died on Baliceaux). The British didn't take us from St. Vincent to Roatan. Also what about Carib leap? Where many leapt off a cliff on St. Vincent rather than surrender. The rest is more accurate because it covers present day.😏 Edit added: My cousin tells it better. kzbin.info/www/bejne/m6fKg5SnhLl9lbcfeature=shared

I’m glad you found my documentary I made 11 years ago as a college kid. I agree: the Garinagu SHOULD be telling their own stories. But honestly: my experience as a momentary filmmaker makes me think few Garífuna are interested in spending the two years it took me to make a film like this. I sincerely invite you to make a film and write in Baliceaux and the Carib leap. Fix my inaccuracies. Fire away.

Why are the Garinagu not succeeding now? It's not all about language. Why are they as people not thriving? No me digas Tornabe or drogas. Hay algo mas. Quisiera saber que de verdad paso.

As an American born woman, I wish I had a connection or tribe or people that u could go back to. I’m very envious of the Garifuna people and Culture. What a blessing to be able to go back to your roots. Great documentary. 😊

It is a wonderful thing to see the effort the Garifuna are placing in preserving their Culture, language, and traditions. That is what makes the people and makes them part of the beautiful pattern that is the fabric of Society as a whole! Blessings to them all!

Many now are mixed with Bantu West African slaves brought to South America and North America as the African American and some Native mesoAmerican Indian and Hispanic blood. Only some are mostly pure citizens of 1300s Mali empire which was intolerant Muslim .. All who came in 1300s were strict Muslim culture. I see a lot of Bantu African slave voodun culture in this video... That is post 1500s slave culture.. not preColumbian . They lost their culture and sharia Muslim Sunni religion by mixing with black slaves.

This is deeply eye opening and inspiring. I am part Antiguan and part Jamaican and this documentary leads me to believe that in both those island there are sub groups other than the maroons in Jamaica that need to be discovered and celebrated. Thank you so much for this post.

If The GARINAGU COULD NOT DEFEND ST.VINCENT, AN ISLAND LESS THAN 400 klm.sq, HOW IS IT THAT THEY CAN LAY CLAIM TO 1,400 MILES 0F CENTRAL AMERICAN CARIB COASTLINE? THE AFRICAN GROVE THEATER WAS FOUNDED BY A GARÍFUNA IN NEW YORK CITY IN 1821, FROM THERE "THE DRAMA OF KING CHATUYE!" AND THE ST.VINCENT STORY!

The fact that these American Indians have the American Constitution was the supreme law of the land would you send a new contract death note were you really thinking? Because America is a continent, the largest continent in the world it’s fans from Alaska all the way to South America, Peru, and beyond.

Beautiful! Culture is so important because it gives us pride & identity. Without culture, the youths are lost to the system which is created to keep them down so it is essential to teach it to the next generation.
