I coulda cursed you when you mentioned humidity on my last comment! 94 F & the sky decides to open up for 10 minutes, enough to make things soaked! Not once but 5 F***in' times in one day! It's so humid now you can have a shower just standing out in the sun! At least I got the big field done before the rain. 289 rounds & now time for the idiot blocks.
@Oliver66FarmBoy
@Oliver66FarmBoy 3 сағат бұрын
At least it was 289 round bales and not the roughly 4300 square bales those equate to.

My grandpa ran a Oliver 77 with a New Holland semi-mount sickle mower kind of like the one you are using and we ran 3rd gear too (depending on the grass)...the only problem was we were usually on two different tractors, a Super 88 diesel and that 77 gas, and the Super 88 was slower in the same gear, so eventually one would have to pass the other on the big fields.

Some of them are foolish farmers, and dumb enough even to put their inherited farm land as collateral so to cover the equipment loans they have outstanding ,heck they'll (banks) will take the farm land and force sell it off to pay off the negative balance on the loans outstandings ,,and put them out of business,,as they (the banks)have done before.

That old case bailer had a much wider pickup on it as I remember than your Oliver bailer,I remember the wide alfalfa wind rows it tackled with ease,it never sludge up as I remembered,,we pulled it with our 1800 at times or the 350 Farmall

Keep working that older equipment for sure that's pd for ,as you'll be still farming when the high rollers get their expensive equipment loans called in,and driven out of farming,,it called a bail in, in which is written into every loan now to protect the banks fed underwriters when a depression hits again,,it's stated so ,so the banks can now balance their books when push comes to shove ,as it right around the corner the signs show

That tractor looks like the one I spent years operating back in the 1955 - to 1968. Tires look great, i bet you could use that tractor a lot more if the pto was operational. We did an update on our tractor by p[tting the larger clutch system that has the extra disc, it really increased the functionallity of the pto, has much more resistance to slippage and less pressure to engage. It is like the system on the 550 I now own, and I don't have the oil leakage that the oleer clutch system had, I think our 55 was the earliest model and they made updates in 19555-1956 era to imrpove the oil leakage problems with a new hub that had a better seal system. It has been so long I don't remember the details but we had the tractor back at the dealer several time for updates on the pto and the front axel and steering arms reenforcements. Also a major hyd lift upgrade in 1959.

Good for you Ethan getting that hay off the field. You are lucky to have a female that don't mind getting their hands dirty. You wouldn't get a city girl to do that. Growing up on a farm back so many years now for me taught me many things that I used all through my working days.

You're right, it was a good thing you didn't double the rows,😂. That second field had some really big ones. I noticed you had to drop a gear. The old equipment came through once again. Glad you beat the rain this year. I remember last year, it was tough getting it to get it out of the field. I loved watching the hay go into the baler. Thanks for sharing. I'll see you later.

Glad you missed the rain!!! A few misties was par for the course when we were starting the season. Our knot failures were when twine balls changed or if baling too heavy. Had some twine once that had thick/thin spots... you could see it snap in the bale chamber from the tractor @#$%^&. Not much fun with a thrower launching bale flakes.

Never call them idiot blocks... for many small squares are the easiest for many people to feed hay to their animals without big equipment...with alot less wasted feed... just saying... those discriminating Big Farmers with their Derogatory terms over old ways of farming... for many this is still the easiest... raking hay and Baling are 2 of the most satisfying jobs on the farm
@joeymortenson5827
@joeymortenson5827 17 сағат бұрын
I was wondering why you don’t have hay rack to pull behind baler ? Then you don’t have to pick them up . I baled hay for years by myself and it was easier to get off and stack them on rack . Just wonder is all . I do enjoy baling myself especially the smell of hay .
@Oliver66FarmBoy
@Oliver66FarmBoy 3 сағат бұрын
Look at those 2 fields and imagine trying to bale them with a wagon. The weight of the baler alone will push you down the hills at Shelly’s moms.
