That was gold on the D problem. I took a screwdriver, and lightly bent the housing/guard up on either side of the felt bumper, and magic. I wonder how many horns have just been bumped on that and then the D gets stuffy. If I just rest my finger on the low C and allow it to move down just a bit, it goes stuffy again. Brilliant fix. Thanks

Beautiful horn! Interesting that it is a US (Elkhart) model with no engraving. I have a 1952 and the engraving is amazing.

Joe Henderson aged like red wine. The older he got, the better he got in my opinion. When he was younger he was a special talent. Towards the end he reached a level of maturity and genius in his sound that was truly one of a kind. I wish he could have lived forever.

Please which of your mouthpieces discount use in that demo. I like the depth and punch of the sound. Can you advise?

What about key heights? Should they be lower to give more resistance across the horn, or set higher, and control the resistance with the reed strength?

Son you just peeled this ole man's head back to the white meat, waxing on the technical behind Mr. Henderson's sound. Fav tune...Black Narcissus. Appreciate the knowledge son.

I play and collect vintage Bueschers. I can't afford to have all of them professionally restored, so over the last year or so I have been slowly teaching myself to do at least some of the restoration myself (mainly disassemble, clean/polish, reassemble). I signed up for your course this morning and am excited to dive in. I have three saxes on my bench that are partially done. I am stuck at the moment and need help! This course opened up at the perfect time.

As a longtime player, finding good repair people over the years is increasingly becoming difficult, my biggest fear is people stop playing, because there aren't either enough repair people doing good work, or it's so expensive no one wants to pay for it, thanks for doing this.

Just got mine in silver yesterday and it is amazing! The high notes above D just sing out with more volume, and bigger sound all around. All through the horn it is just easier to play with an amazing sound. Love it!!

While I haven't owned a Mark Vi, I own a Yanagisawa T880, TWO2, and a Yamaha yts-62 purple logo (yes, I'm blessed)...and there is something special in the tone of my Bueschers and Conn. My vintage horns are lighter and there has got to be something in the older materials that gives them different tone than a modern horn. However, instead of buying one Mark VI for 12K, I bought multiple horns on the cheap as I found bargains. There is something different in the tone of vintage horns. Then again, even Dex sounded different (better, imho) on his 10m than he did on his Mark VI.

I would like to emphasize why Jack is telling us to change the pads when they show signs of ageing. Sometimes a leak-light will not reveal that a worn out pad is going to leak during your performance because the pad can't hold the accumulation of water (condensation). You might play your saxophone fine for 30 minutes at home practicing. When you are at a gig or performance and you are playing for a long time, a worn-out pad will not hold the water after a certain point and then you will not be able to play some notes because of the leaky pad. On tenor, alto and bari, usually the first pad to wear out is the high f palm key pad because the water usually accumulates there a lot while you are playing. On my soprano sax, it is usually the Eb palm key pad that wears out the quickest because I obviously hold the soprano more straight up and down than the other saxes. If you have a leak anywhere on your sax, you will usually notice it most when you try to play the lowest notes on your sax. A leak in your high f key pad will make the lowest notes on your sax not speak... it will affect other notes, but it is very noticeable on your lowest notes. I found this out the hard way on my gigs. I didn't understand at first, why my sax was playing fine at home and then on gigs, suddenly the low notes would not work.
