This is at the Hilton resort in Aruba. The birds are free to hang out in the trees, by the ocean, for much of the day. But, they are caged overnight, and their wings are clipped, so that they cannot fly away.

My dream is to someday see a Geiko/Maiko performance in Kyoto like this. Usually they can't be booked by non regular customers but I heard they have tourism programs now, is that how you got the chance? If you could explain it to me in detail, that would be so helpful in the future! Thank you! 😁
@LynnJulian Жыл бұрын
I was vacationing, in Tokyo, and was looking to see a geisha performance. We found this group advertised on the Internet. They rent a performance space at a local mall. It is a quiet, back room, away from people and stores. Not only do they perform for you, they teach you the history of their people, and include the audience in the show!

The real Geikos are singing and el laying the shamisen
@LynnJulian Жыл бұрын
You are correct that the elder, mentoring geishas are the ones playing the instruments. But, we believe they are all geishas.
@faarnn Жыл бұрын
Those are Maikos not Giesha.
@LynnJulian Жыл бұрын
Your expertise is appreciated by all. Yes, these are apprentice geisha. Their elders and mentors, the true geisha, are playing the instruments in the left-hand corner.
@sarahfreezis2322 Жыл бұрын
No. They’re both Geishas. A maiko wears kimono with longer sleeves (furisode), the darari obi reachs the ankles, and her hair is styled with more ornaments than a geisha’s.
@LynnJulian Жыл бұрын
@@sarahfreezis2322 thank you so much for clarifying that for all of us. All we were told is that they were the younger geishas who are trained by the elder mentors playing instruments.
@Gr8fulSunflowr Жыл бұрын
🤔 are you sure? They aren't wearing furisode and they have virtually no hair ornaments like maiko traditionally have. I cant tell for sure but it looks like both their lips are painted red as well, not just one lip like a maiko does. I'm pretty sure the women dancing are geiko.
@LynnJulian Жыл бұрын
@@Gr8fulSunflowr It was advertised, in Tokyo, as an event, by geisha, to teach people about geisha. All I know for sure, is that the women playing the instruments, on the far left, or genuine geisha. The dancers were much younger, and were being mentored by them.

Many bands on Royal Street are "Pick-Up Bands," that allow various musicians to "sit-in" with them for the day. Others are more structured in their line-up. I assume Tuba Skinny "picked up" a musician for the day.
@ricardobrunas38906 жыл бұрын
I think it's true. But this group usually presents good musicians. Not all, of course. Tuba Skinny band seems to me a very genuine expression. Watching the videos, of course. And comparing.

The trombone player is Charlie Halloran, who quite often appears instead of Barnabus.

Where is the regular trombone player?
@july8xx3 жыл бұрын
Charlie Hallorin on trombone and John Dixon Both regulars in the Shotgun Jazz Band while Marla Dixon is on tour in Europe with the Shakem up Jazz Band. Barnebus and Jason are taking a break while Robin is on his 1920’s vintage drums instead of his washboard. In NOLA there are a thousand musicians playing in five thousand bands.

I'm sorry to hear that. I have no idea who you spoke to... but I purchased a ring there with a Louisiana opal set in it. the woman featured speaking in the video is the store owner who personally waited on me and taught me all about Louisiana opals.

Interesting. I just went there two weeks ago while on vacation, and specifically asked if they carried any Louisiana opals, and the man I spoke to said he hadnever heard of them.
